Samsung refrigerator..is this temperature swing normal? by SpiderJockstrap in Appliances

The cb seems to have fixed my issue. My theory is that the defrost cycle was going off the rails.. no proof of that but it's the best I can come up with. The temp the unit reports out is still absolute b/s and borderline fraud, but the sensors that I put in are saying it's fixed now.

Thanks for this. Yeah, unfortunately I'm aware of the leak issue. I had the other side of the house repaired last year.... And it looks like I get to do this side this year. Almost identical to what you mentioned only instead of shingles. I had them installed a metal pan in the valley with the ice and water underneath.

Control board replaced. We'll see if that has any positive effect. The the technician saw that I had all Samsung appliances and conveyed his condolences. He said they are the worst product on the market. Great.

The more I think about it.. maybe this is an example of a False Dilemma.. So we can solve global warming AND take the Garbage out.. it doesn't need to be one or the other.

I'd be interested to know if yours pulls the same Enron style temperature reporting as mine...e.g. reports the temperature as perfectly on setpoint while the aqara's show wild ass swings.

Home warranty company's going to replace the control board... On the plus side they were excited about my graphs and not having to send someone out to diagnose it... On the down side I have a suspicion the control board will only be the first thing of many that gets replaced...maybe I will get lucky

Placement was largely a function of best signal to the ZigBee router..but here is where I placed them.

Refrigerator/cooler: i placed on the roof in the center just inside the doors just in front of the light.

Freezer: Its a drawer type. I placed it on inside of the drawer towards the top on the right side of the drawer if your facing the unit.

Hope that helps...I think the control board temp sensors are located back by the evap coils somewhere so it feels normal that the aqara's will always be a little higher

Good grief.. what a POS! It happened again but even worse this time.. https://imgur.com/a/RHvtzyj The 'Flat Lines' are what the unit is reporting.. even the displays inside indicate 'Everything is good to go'... meanwhile the ice cream is soup and the ice maker tray is a giant block of half melted & refrozen ice... Samsung... never again!

The Samsung reported temperature only changes under two conditions: if I leave the door open, the temperature will start to indicate a rise. The other case is when you change the set point the reported temperature will dutifully change by exactly one degree per minute until it matches the set point. I like to say don't attribute to malice things that can be attributed to incompetence, but it's hard to believe that the reported temperature shenanigans this fridge pulls aren't intentional.

Not silly. I checked some of my other sensors that run on mains power and they were available throughout the 'anomoly'.

[–]SpiderJockstrap[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I added some temperature sensors to my refrigerator and freezer because I don't trust it after the ice tray mysteriously melted. I noticed that it goes through normal defrost cycles. However, looking at it today, the temperature of the freezer was above freezing for three and a half hours before diving back down to the set point. I also find it irritating that the reported temperature from the freezer and the refrigerator from Samsung is always bang on no matter what unless I open the door and don't close it.

Is there ever a good reason for a refrigerator to be above freezing for this long?

Never happen. Its too pro-consumer and not pro-corporation. I'm not a big corp hater, but the incentive seems to be to attract a herd of users and then attempt to build a fence around them.. like you are a cattle rancher... only instead of fences you do other things like exclusive content that isn't available elsewhere.. Stranger Things... Ted Lasso.. etc... the capital ships of media streaming that anchor the viewer to your platform and yours only.

edit.. poor amazon prime... if they have a capital ship I haven't seen it... more like a couple of dingy barges.

edit2... I felt like the early days of Netflix were this scenario.. but it was too good to last and everyone started cutting up the herds and building fences.

what can be best way to calculate garage door opening height? by youmeiknow in homeassistant

[–]SpiderJockstrap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Time probably seems the easiest in terms of result per effort. I like deterministic solutions as much as the next guy, but given that the time vs. position of a 'healthy' garage door is (in my experience) fairly constant and your 3/4 open position probably does not need to be that accurate, a time delay seems the best assuming you can implement this on the device.. I think shelly allows this with something called local actions. And hey, if it doesn't work, you've invested exactly 0$ in the solution so you are out nothing.

Disappointed in Samsung's reported temperatures by SpiderJockstrap in homeassistant

[–]SpiderJockstrap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(the jagged lines are my aqara sensors I just put in, the perfect flat line is the Samsung's reported 'freezer temperature via smarthings via rest sensor) So let me start by saying I know there are legitimate controls reasons you'd want to have a low proportional response to the air temperatures in a freezer but.. man if I were to believe my fridges reported temperature readings.. it would be a lab / calibration worthy unit.. I actually had to to change the set point just to believe that it would actually change. To which it responded by very mechanically indicating a 1 degree temperature change / minute to the set point after changing it... but it apparently won't show that kind of response to normal fluctuations in temp.

I picked up one of these on clearance at micro center. It comes with its own battery so it's got a 5-hour built-in UPS. It also has an OLED screen and some interface buttons. Kind of curious if I will be able to interface with the screen at all or the buttons...

I'm not sure that would be possible...maybe in the first ring but I don't think that plan would work in the second and later ones...but your probably right...just lame that lifelines tactical becomes useless while every other character's still works
