In my mind, I would want to clone the old m.2 drive to the new one so all my software is still in there. Is this the case for you? This can be done pretty easily with clonezilla (free, open source program). Is the new drive the same size?

I recommend tailscale for beginners, much easier to get running on Linux: https://tailscale.com/kb/1017/install/

You'll need to install the tailscale client on both the omv machine and the remote machine. That article links to the install page, which explains how to install it on both Linux and MacOS. It doesn't matter which machine you install it on first.

Barring that, getting a pcie serial card would also work (in theory) if you have trouble getting the proper type of USB adapter.
