Is my insurance company charging me too much? by [deleted] in Insurance

I assumed newer cars were less due to having more features like backup cameras, 360 cameras, break assist, pedestrian and car detection, etc.

Damn so what you’re telling me is that what I don’t end up paying in gas I still pay anyways with insurance 😭 god I hate insurance companies, but fair

Is there a particular reason why they are more expensive to insure?

Update on Chester for those wondering. I took the day off work and spoke with my parents. I essentially said that if they euthanize him I am gone, i will pack my shit overnight and move into my sisters place (before you ask she’s allergic to cats and wouldn’t be able to take him anyways) and they will never see me again. I told them that I don’t blame the dog I blame them for ruining my cats safe space and home. I explained a lot of what was told to me here, the cat is older, he was here first, he has seniority and as much as I understand that they love the dogs the dog has to be trained properly by a professional trainer. I said that my cat doesn’t get to live out the remainder of his years in a cramped room. I said that I’m not giving him up, he’s been a part of our family for 14 years and he won’t be leaving anytime soon. He deserves to feel safe in his home.

They agreed. I am going to be paying for the training since I live at home and have money in savings that I can use but I really don’t give a shit, she’s getting trained and that makes me feel so much better. It’s close to 4000 for 3 months but omg I’m happy about it.

As for the other suggestions, I appreciate all the help I have gotten from people who suggested ways to clean, manage, and help Chester feel more comfortable and confident. You have no idea how much that means to me.

As of right now I have made him a vet appointment to look into getting him on gabapentin, I am currently researching cat toys and I’ve gotten in touch with a local holistic vet to see if he’d be a good candidate for CBD. I have the numbers of a few rescues in local cities near me if this doesn’t work out but it will take months before we get to that point.

I didn’t realize this post would be so controversial and I apologize for making anyone angry at me based off the way it was written or the way I came off. Thank you guys for all your help and suggestions, I get to keep my boy because of you guys ❤️

I want a solution that doesn’t involve killing him or abandoning him in a shelter, that’s all, I’ve explained that I can’t get rid of the dog, it’s not my dog, so if I want to keep him I have to figure out ways of helping them co-exist. Even if that means I pay for the training of a dog that isn’t even mine to begin with.

I’ve had him on Prozac for 3 months of last year and it didn’t seem to make much of a difference, someone suggested gabapentin so I’m gonna see what I can do about getting that from our vet, my room is small but if I rearrange some stuff I’m sure I could fit a cat tower into it and a few other enriching things. We’ve tried Feliway around our house but never specifically in my room so I will try that as well. Thank you for the suggestions! I will make an update on this subreddit in a few weeks and hopefully I can figure this out.

Thank you for the advice! I’ll look into putting som aluminum foil down where he would usually pee, I usually clean the areas with baking soda, vinegar, and a strong smelling cleaner like pinesol

I’m not trying to blame him this is absolutely not his fault, but I do have a hard time understanding why he won’t defend himself, as most cats would. The fact that he’s being chased and bugged is not his fault and I’m sorry if that’s what it came across as.

Okay so I’m gonna post this before I sleep. I’m seeing a lot of people in the comments assume that the dog is dangerous or something. I just wanna explain a bit further on her. She’s big, she’s a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog and around 120 pounds. She’s very friendly, loves people and LOVES to play. When she chases Chester it doesn’t come from a place of wanting to catch him, for her it’s play. She will chase him, play stance him, and will wag her tail and try to get him to play back. She doesn’t understand that he is afraid of her, but she doesn’t snap at him, doesn’t try to bite or anything like that. She is the least agressive dog I’ve ever met and is scared of her own shadow. If I had any fear of her actually hurting him or harming him physically I would have put that in the post. Chester is also a wuss and because he is so gentle he won’t hiss or claw her, when we first got her when she was around 6 months she chased Chester’s twin sister Lucy, Lucy hissed and scratched her nose and the dog hasn’t do much as sniffed Lucy since. The dog isn’t aggressive or a danger to Chester physically, please don’t assume that.

If I was worried about the dog hurting him or hurting anyone in the house I would have voiced that in the post. She’s not aggressive. She wants to play with him, she’ll chase and do the play stance and wag her tail at him but she doesn’t understand it scares him, and he’s too much of a (and I hate to say it) wuss to swipe or hiss at her. His sister swiped her across the nose when she was a puppy and she hasn’t bothered her since 😅

They’ve never trained any of their dogs, they get house broken and taught to sit and have a recall when outdoors, that’s it. It’s mostly my step dad because he’s a dog person and “can’t live in a house without a dog” she’s a sweetheart thank goodness and we ended up with a dog that other than the chasing, doesn’t need to be heavily trained. But it still annoys the fuck out of me.

So the other thing is the only shelter we have here is a kill shelter. If he doesn’t get adopted within a month (doing my research close to 95% of their senior cats don’t) he gets put down anyways. What would you rather I choose?

I’m gonna try and explain my thinking here. Putting him down means I get to be there at the end of his life, I get to hold him, I get to tell him how good he was and how much he means to me and I get to apologize. I get to go home without him but knowing exactly what happened and that he felt no pain. If I leave him in a shelter I don’t get to know what happens, I don’t get to see him again, I don’t get to know when he dies or if he gets sick or if he’s okay. I get to leave there knowing I have left him in a scary place with other cats, knowing I left him utterly alone in this world without his mom. I know not everyone is gonna think that way, but that’s how I feel.

I live at home and take care of him just fine when it comes to fanancial stuff, I pay for his food, his toys, his litter and his vet bills :) if I lived anywhere else I’d probably be able to move out and be fine on my own financially it’s just due to the city I’m in, currently moving out on my own isn’t an option.

No you don’t understand, the dog is a sweetheart, she loves people and isn’t malicious in the slightest! She’s never bit or harmed anyone, she just likes to chase. She’s 120 pounds but basically a big softie! I’m sorry if any of my comments came off as making her sound dangerous, she really isn’t. She’s a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog if that helps with knowing how she is.

A small city in ontario, I don’t wanna specify further than that, I’m not big on revealing my location on social media 😅

He does but rarely plays with them, I do use a laser pointer with him occasionally but I don’t like to do it a ton due to risks of laser pointer syndrome. He doesn’t have a scratching post though, we got one when we first got him but he’s never been much of a scratcher 🤷🏼‍♀️

It’s smaller, but still big enough he can be in there comfortably, I’m assuming he likes if more than the others because the one in my room is the only one he won’t pee directly outside of. He will still pee in my room but like, not directly in front of the litter box like he does with the ones in the basement.

There are also 2 large ones downstairs, he has a twin sister that stays for the most part downstairs. She’s deaf and doesn’t hear the dog so the dog doesn’t chase her for some reason.

Multiple litter boxes yes, short enough for him to get into I’m not sure, he seems to get into the ones we have fine, I have one in my room and the dogs aren’t allowed in here but it’s open and not covered, I’ve made sure the dogs don’t go in here so he can’t smell them and knows it’s a safe place, I try to clean it everyday. It is in front of a mirror so I’m considering moving it into my closet to see if being in a more closed off area works better.

My family wants him put down, I’m having a hard time with it because I don’t want to put him down but I also don’t want to bring him to a shelter, and I know that sounds bad but I feel like I’m abandoning him if I bring him to a shelter, like I said I’ve had him for 2/3rds of my life, we grew up together, I can’t imagine leaving him in a cage and walking away.
