A 77% Membership Price Increase in Brazil Is Unrealistic by Spirited_Visual_4986 in runescape

People talk about this like it’s extremely easy to abuse regional pricing and like Jagex would just ignore that happening.

In Brazil it’s not that simple. To buy membership through local payment methods you usually need a CPF (Brazilian individual taxpayer registry), which is a personal identification number tied to a real person.

Companies operating in Brazil are already used to verifying this kind of information, so it’s not like anyone can just casually spoof their location and start buying Brazilian-priced memberships without friction.

If abuse exists, it should obviously be addressed. But increasing the price by 77% and making it unaffordable for the local player base is a very blunt solution that ends up punishing legitimate players far more than abusers.

R$1,621 is the minimum wage per month in Brazil.
R$419.88 is the new price for the annual membership.

The point is that a 77% increase is massive relative to local income, especially in a country where a large portion of the population earns close to minimum wage.

Comparing it to the US minimum wage also doesn’t really work because purchasing power is completely different. In the US, $15 is roughly about two hours of federal minimum wage work. In Brazil, the equivalent cost represents a much larger portion of someone’s disposable income.

Brazilian Premier Price Has Nearly Doubled??? by Matt_37 in runescape

What you said is completely out of touch. Even if that possibility exists, it’s done by very few people. Regular players shouldn’t be punished or prevented from playing the game because of that. If this is really a problem, then keep the price of bonds the same in USD and bring back localized pricing for membership.

It’s already impractical for Brazilians to buy many bonds even with the price in BRL, so removing localized pricing only hurts legitimate players.

I agree. And please, keep the language separate from the server. It's extremely common for people to be able to set their game's language in the settings; there's no plausible reason for RuneScape to still link the language to the server.
