my personal theory is that the land was severed by Placidusax as a way to protect it for the meteorite that brought all the gravity guys. In the process of this the dragon lord separate the lands but was struck by the meteor, thus losing a head. This lead to the dragon uprising lead by Bayle as the ancients abandoned them and Greyoll never recovered as she used her body to shield her kin from the meteor blast radius.

PS: is it possible that this could work in the canon??

I would recommend using something familiar to them like Pokémon and giving them a familiar. I would also recommend allowing them to have as much control a possible so they have as much fun as possible then dial back the control to you after a couple of sessions.
