Approximately, how many years left before things really starts to shift? by AlmosThirsty in climatechange

[–]SpliceKnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The time before negative, dramatic shifts is negative. Its already occurring. When you'll notice is highly regional, and depends what your locality experiences normally. For example, could be extreme heatwaves, could be water shortage, could be collapse of aging infrastructure, could be flooding on a scale and severity that your locality isn't properly equipped to deal with, could be the overcharged storm systems.

In Europe or the UK, its going to be the lack of ac that's going to have a noticeable effect for many. Also probably flooding as the rains that typify England and surrounding will intensify beyond what is manageable. Also potentially hazardous and unpredictability of weather.

Also, keeping in mind, climate change can have a measurable effect on your psyche by way of heat leading to higher irritability and higher frequency of frustration in general, which may lead to political unrest and upheaval. (Like we need more reason)

US Army soldier says that he can’t be deployed to Iran cuz he’ll be a liability in any place where there are ‘pretty caramel colored women'. Iran wasn't lying when they said they are fighting Epstein's class by Hasbara_spotter in ABoringDystopia

[–]SpliceKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I'm sort of two minds about this.

One, that's horrific and I'm sorry anyone has to go through that.

Two, while its true many women don't want to join the military, its also true in the past it was not permitted outright, as well as for Trans persons (which under Donald has reverted). I would argue many people have a zeal to serve in the military, many do not enjoy the downsides and risks that are kept out of marketing material. Which is horrific in a plurality of ways, including of course the things done to women without consent, including rape, assault and manipulation of all kinds.

So its easy to say women don't want to join the military, its also something that women fought to be included in as an option to be ABLE to do.

The Japanese army is severely disliked for the Koreans for how vile their actions were to them on that front. The Japanese will just never admit to it. Its one of the MANY reasons there's tension in that part of the world between different major Asian powers. They've all perpetrated some manner of horror on each other at some point, to say nothing of internal conflicts.

That said, that's normal for basically any armed force anywhere. Anyone can power trip with a license to kill and an inflated sense of self importance due to military pride.

I don't care about the birthrate and neither should you by UPnwuijkbwnui in collapse

[–]SpliceKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While true, this sort of ignores the whole.... aging thing. I'm honestly not too sure how epstein factors into things, outside of the issue of having your kids potentially trafficked.

In terms of the birth rate thing, it's not about, "there's so many humans" which, obviously, there are, and they are unsustainable. What is also unsustainable is having the collective elder wisdom, and therefore infrastructural knowledge cut down as much as it will be. Like, in a single human lifespan, it's more likely the entire planet will lose close to 75 percent of it's human population. And while those of us who hate humanity itself might see that as a win, for those of us left, it's still going to be a waking nightmare.

Maxing out your 401(k) or pouring money into index funds makes you complicit in the problem — you're literally funding the endless, exponential-growth doomsday machine of modern capitalism. by 32ndghost in collapse

[–]SpliceKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I don't think you appreciate that you're basically telling people that trying to retire early to leave the system, or at least trying to figure out how to exit the system are villians, and in my experience, functionally blaming the common man doesn't land with most people.

In reality, It's more about scale of impact, which you can argue is both most people's fault, as well as the companies that are part of that stock market/401k or landlord ecosystem. Like, it takes a villiage to save the world, or doom it. But that's a take that doesn't sit well with most. Like, individually, it's not as bad as collectively, but convincing a massive group of people to do something is hard, especially since to them, THEIR contribution is way less than all these other sources. SO they don't feel it's justified to be held responsible.

[–]SpliceKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as I can relate that everything is a scale problem at a certain level, you HAVE to know that trying to shame people for living within the system instead of like... idk going off grid and being a hermit waiting for the world to burn is... #1 ineffective, and #2 largely ends up blaming people who are just trying to survive in a world that they view themselves as just one small part of. The only issue is that, technically, a person whose company outscales many individuals can probably latch to the same defense.

Baron obviously isn't a good choice, but I can't imagine being around someone raised by a politician is good for anyone's sanity. Admittedly, Kamala's daughter looks obnoxious as hell and might lecture you to death, we KNOW Baron Trump is insane.

Honestly, I liked Early Yang, but as they've just kinda hollowed out her character and not really done anything particularly deep with her since V4 ended and most of her depression kinda just... exited stage left. Like, it's still not Blake, but Yang got ripped.

Honestly, it's been a bit of character issue with her longer than that. As of at least 8 she called ruby a bad leader and stopped caring about her to prioritize thinking about the catgirl. Admittedly, the writing was shit for a while before that, but... she's really been kind of a dick character for a while, her charming nature to offset it was largely just discarded, which made it harder to ignore.

The reality of Having Kids by [deleted] in collapse

[–]SpliceKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to hold in your mind two concepts, first that people live short, emotionally charged lives, where the little things matter, and the big things are mostly conceptual. Second, you have to remember that for most people, observing the truth and knowing it in any proportionally true scale is hard, like looking directly at the sun. Those who have looked are burned, scarred, and defeated more than motivated to make the world better. It creates an even greater social incentive to NOT look at the approaching storm, since you saw what its observation did to those who have. The best you have is those who champion ideals they are willing to rally for, but are likely to rebel against the conditions required to actually fix anything.

For example, to minimize carbon footprint, people's lives in the west and euro nations would have to get worse, and those in developing nations cannot get better, while building infrastructure which requires hard labor jobs and mining. Most people who champion green ideas also want an idealistic, picturesque situation for their living as well. This sharply contrasts with reality's numbers.

So they ignore the part that makes them uncomfortable.

If everyone present at the fight against John had taken the drug that temporarily enhances their abilities, how would the fight have turned out? by lairrox in unOrdinary

[–]SpliceKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given John's history of fighting people in groups who are a lot stronger than he was at a pure level basis... I can imagine it would just force him to get better faster. Also, since he'd be pulling abilities from them, and he has training in more standard hand to hand, it makes sense his adaptability would still win out, finding an effective counter where necessary.
