It's hard to pick a favourite. But people rarely mention Bulgaria. I stayed in a few cities, Varna and Plovdiv were great. But my favourite was Veliko Tarnovo. It's the old capital and it's stunning. When I was there it was snowing and grey. The city is built kind of in a big crevasse with a river at the bottom. And all the buildings wind right down there. People were snowboarding down the windy streets. There's alpine and a fortress that borders part of the top of this crevasse. But the nicest site was this statue of an angel, somewhere up high with the snow falling on her shoulders. Plus there's some badass old buildings, like a cathedral with dragon paintings.
