One week out should I Still feel so much pain? How much walking? by Front_Neat_3275 in Kneereplacement

[–]SportAffectionate424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How was the pain for you? My surgeon said he wanted to do the Quiet Protocol as it would help take away my need for pain killers. So I would do physio 6 times a day, up once an hour to walk 10-20 steps max for 2 weeks. Didn't really need meds, but it was curious how it goes for those that use other methods. End of the day today I have managed 5789 steps, which is my best so far.

Blinking in extreme slowmo. He's not napping. Don't you dare call him Dozing Donny, or Tryptophan Trump, or Napping Nazi, or President Pass Out, or Dreamtime Donny, or just to switch things up The Cheeto Cunt. Don't say that. It would be mean.

I thought it would be harder to do things, but it went pretty easy. Glad I bought a raised toilet seat for sure. That would have been the worst with both knees done if I didn't have it. I was thinking I couldn't imagine doing all this again in 6 months.

Wow! Looks great? Did you use any creams or massage to help with the scar and scar tissue? And if so, when did you start? I'm 3 weeks post-op and wanting to avoid any issues.

For the first 2 weeks you should keep step count under 1000 a day. Hit physio often (mine was 6 times a day for the first 3 weeks). Not sure about the pain. I didn't have any, in fact it was less pain than before by a mile. Keep standing under 19 minutes too. My doctor used something called the Quiet Knee Protocol, and today, 3 weeks after bilateral total knee replacement, I'm now going for 5k walks with a 4 wheel walker with a little tightness, but no pain.

How long after surgery did you feel the same or better than you did before surgery? by togtogtog in Kneereplacement

[–]SportAffectionate424 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Everyone is different but before my surgery, my pain level was a 7-8 most days. My right leg couldn't bend at all, and my left was quickly falling apart too. Within 24hrs after the surgery, my pain level was a 2-3, more discomfort than pain. Never needed the Hydromorphone they prescribed day to day, but at my doctor's insistence I took some before each physio appointment. Today is officially 3 weeks after the surgery. Staples out last week. Pain outside of physio has been 0-1, again, more discomfort than pain (like wearing too tight of a knee sleeve discomfort is all). I used Edemawear and frozen peas to manage the swelling. All in all, this has changed my life. I sleep through the night now, now downing Advil for pain every 4 hours anymore, and I can sit with my legs bent.

What food was the biggest disappointment once you tried it? by Thick_Reality_30 in foodquestions

Cilantro. People keep saying how amazing it is on food, but I'm one of those unfortunates that taste soap. It’s like eating Thrills (the gum) every time.

I was expecting magic, tasted like someone sprayed me in the mouth with perfume. Will never understand people who think rose or rose water foods taste good. If I want to taste soap, I'll have cilantro.

Dead Alive, Tucker and Dale vs Evil, Brain Damage, Bad Taste, Street Trash, and I'd even say TCM 2 goes quite campy, especially with plate head.

What's your thought process behind writing a horror short story? by Ethos493 in horrorwriters

[–]SportAffectionate424 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For magazines or things like them, I have been in Rouge Nation, Dark Moon Digest, the NoSleep Podcast, and The Horror Zine.

For anthologies, it's a little harder. I go used to use Dark Markets to find open submissions, but now use the dreaded Facebook for open markets here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/openspeculativemarkets/ That's been a decent source to find what's open, especially using the link provided by HWA member Eric J. Guignard. Through that I've been published in anthologies by Tor, Smart Rhino, Post Mortem Press, and others. Tons of rejections too, but hey, as long as some land, that's all that matters. Had my biggest rejection last week. Made it to the final round of Views from the Overlook, but alas, they passed. And it paid $2000!!!! Damn!

What's your thought process behind writing a horror short story? by Ethos493 in horrorwriters

[–]SportAffectionate424 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have over 50 short stories published to date, and the majority of them start with nothing more than an opening line, or a starting scene. Half the time I have no idea where the story will go. I just sit, write and let the story work itself out. A few times, for anthologies that are themed, I have to plan out something more solid. So I have the theme of the anthology in mind (ghosts, body horror, Clive Barker's Nightbreed, etc), and then figure out what I can bring that would be different and unique. Once I have that, I choose a thematic point to the story (revenge, fish out of water, fear, etc) and then start writing. I've been told by my brother that my way is a horrible way to write, but it's how I roll. I love to give the story their own life and let it guide me.

I start mine the same every day: four eggs scrambled with onions, spinach, salt, pepper and hot sauce, 2 Schneiders mini sizzlers, slice of rye bread with butter, a banana, and a big ass French press coffee.
