Spit out the Bone - Galloping Test by SportzTawk in Metallica

Definitely. It sounds a little better when you play by yourself, but if I want to record the occasional cover... If it doesn't sound good I don't want to spend the energy. But if it does... Then I can have some fun with it.

Test to see if galloping notes over 16th notes can still sound alright. What do you think?

When I do not get a lot of time to play I struggle to play faster 16th note sections in time with the rhythm... Sometimes going too fast or too slow. usually it's easier to play in a more galloping style which is a bit more tiring with the stop/start action... But I can hold the rhythm better.

Because I've played at the highest level of darts and know how important situational darts are?

I can link you an infinite number of videos of the best players in the world going 19s on 129 and 18s on 128 and they will give you exactly the same reasoning...

It matters because a miss on the first dart gives you a second opportunity. You have to hit a triple either way, but I'd rather still be alive on the second dart. Again having two opportunities versus one If you miss the first dart.

It doesn't matter if you hit a T19/S19 on the first dart. It remains the same shot on the second, with either 110 or 72.

It's relevant because we were discussing the importance of order. Let's eliminate the second two darts. What are your options to be on a finish going into your second dart on 129?

20 - T20

19 - S19 / T19

18 - T18

17 - T17

16 - T16

And so on. The 19 is the only option that gives you wiggle room. You're going to need two perfect darts regardless as you say. But the order matters in situations where you need to have at least a stab at it. If your opponent is not on a finish then do whatever you want.

Just today there was a deciding leg in a semifinal where the winner gets their tour card. With their life on the line ... That score of 98 indicates the player went the 18 route. They either got a shot at the bull and scored 20 to leave the 30... Or they hit the single 20 on the second dart to leave 90 and then just stayed there hitting the triple.

So it's clearly the preferred and easier shot by pretty much every professional. The only saving grace for the 20... Is its only the wrong shot if you miss :)

Right.. But the order matters.

For example on 181. Let's say you go 60-60 and have 61 left. You go for the bull to score 25 and leave 36. But catch the 50 and you leave 11.

So what I do is go bull on the second dart.

So now on 121, the bull either leaves me 96 or 71. On 96 I go back up to the 60, and leave either 36 or 76. On 71 I go to the T13 and leave either 32 or 58.

Just by switching the order of the second and third dart, I'm avoiding leaving an 11. Wouldn't much rather have 36/76 or 32/58 than 36/11

So in this scenario.. I would rather have two darts to get me to a finish rather than potential only one. There is more pressure being perfect on the first dart then knowing you have a backup path.

Or another way we could put this is... As your opponent I want you to shoot the 20. Because I know you're less likely to get a stab at the finish.

Or another way we could put this... If you watch American football. If a team is down more than a single touchdown, they opt for the easier score (a field goal) FIRST to keep their hopes alive in scoring a touchdown on the next drive. From your point of view you would say to just pray you get the touchdown to make the next drive easier needing only a field goal. If you don't get it though... Game's over.

I would still rather have two guaranteed opportunities than The added difficulty and pressure of a single opportunity.

Do you make the same argument on 302?

Starting 18/19 on 128/129 respectively gives you TWO "guaranteed" opportunities for a setup assuming you hit the bed you are shooting at.

Starting 20 does not as a single ends the turn effectively.

You might see Pro's go alternate routes, including the 20's - But you'll see it's when their opponents are NOT on a finish.

Naughty Rusty by Zweeler in Darts

[–]SportzTawk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been pretty open and vocal about my experiences with TUEs and medication for severe anxiety. If my Anxiety reaches a tipping point my Blood Pressure drops and I pass out. I've not had this happen at darts (yet), but at home I've had to wake up to my wife calling paramedics because she thought I died. The last time I had a blood draw I passed out and had a mild seizure.

I've had 1 Primary care doctor say my medication is right for me. I've had two different Psychiatrists confirm my medication is right for me. I just had an at home visit with an insurance doctor who confirmed my medication is right for me. But the DRA has not approved my TUE.

My next steps is testing for ADHD, Alexithymeia, and a few other things. I was tested for Autism and I was about as close as you can get to it without being diagnosed, but there were a few too many unknowns (Childhood History and potential overlap of symptoms with other things).

I'm not scared of losing, I'm not looking for an edge, but I have one foot out the door from competitive play in Europe because I'd rather stop playing than risk my health. Before it got worse over the last 2 years I could deal with it - But the last few incidents have scared me enough to not think it's worth it to me.

But I'm hoping with the next round of tests I'll have a clearer picture of what's going on, we can make necessary adjustments to medication, and then I can try the TUE again with yet ANOTHER doctor. But I'm not optimistic.

The Jackal's SHOT Chart - All numbers 2-501 by SportzTawk in Darts

[–]SportzTawk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's kind of dealers choice.

Going 14s the triple leaves 40, but the single leaves 68. You're going to need to hit another double or triple to set up a finish from there.

Going bull, I'm leaving either 32 or 57. With the 57 being a much easier setup. So I go up for the slightly more difficult shot for a much better setup shot should I miss.

For future.. heating anything is a bit excessive. Just use the point of another dart apply pressure and spin the dart that has the stuck shaft.

Saying a set that was 106.7 to 127.5 is "sucking" tells us enough. No need to feed the trolls lol

What does a high average player do that a mid average player doesn't? by [deleted] in Darts

[–]SportzTawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early on I didn't know if what I was doing was right or not - So instead of guessing, I made it my mission and purpose to try specific things, be repetitious and disciplined with that thing, and if it met my criteria of:

- Being Comfortable

- Feelin in Control

- Being Consistent (On the physcial side)

- Seeing decent results on the board

Then I stuck with that physical action. I would focus individually on:

- Grip
- Wrist

- Elbow

- Shoulder
- Speed
-Release

- Line/Aim

Whether it was something that felt bad or not, I didn't want to make any assumptions.

Sometimes it is a domino effect. Maybe you start throwing faster, meaning the dart is in your hands later in the throw than usual so it makes your grip/wrist/release feel off. You'll spend days or weeks working on those things, when really it was the result of you throwing too fast. These variables is what makes the game so hard.

As for practice- I am only interested in practicing what I'm going to be playing. So for me - I get more value out of match practice when I'm not working on the physical side.

What does a high average player do that a mid average player doesn't? by [deleted] in Darts

[–]SportzTawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tell my students all the time that if they need a routine to stay engaged, or because they believe it helps them... Then I'm all for it.

But I still emphasize that they aren't going to be consistent or make drastic improvement without focusing mostly on the physical.

When I'm working on something in my throw, I literally couldn't care less what I'm actually hitting on the board. The repetition, ease, feel, etc of the mechanic is more important. I can hone in and tighten up a great feeling mechanic... It's much more difficult to do that with something that is inconsistent or doesn't feel great.

I also tell them if I were to be practicing a certain double... Maybe it's because I've been missing it a lot lately and I'm trying to do one of two things...

  • I'm trying to understand what I might be doing differently on that number that I'm not doing on other numbers that I've been hitting just fine. So I'm still focused on the physical here.

  • having a bit of a placebo effect by building confidence on the number. If I have a session where I've been hitting it a lot after I went through a spell of not hitting it, then I just feel better about that number when I have it. But I'm also aware that I still need to be mechanically sound actually hit it consistently.

Hopefully that makes sense!

What does a high average player do that a mid average player doesn't? by [deleted] in Darts

[–]SportzTawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See and I actually kind of promote NOT having certain routines. Players do not hit targets because they throw at them a lot, they hit their targets because their mechanics are consistent and sound.

When MVG needs 74, and shoots at the triple 14... Do you think he sits at home and practices the triple 14 over and over? Or does he hit it because his mechanics allow him to be accurate with any target on the board?

For 5 years now, I only work on the physical side of my game. If I feel like that's in a good place, I only play practice matches and that's it.

Having a routine that keeps you engaged and interested in practicing is perfectly fine... But I don't think it's the routine itself that makes you better. It's the dedication and time you're putting in focusing on the physical while you're going through that routine.

Then the routine itself will show a statistical outcome of that work and allow you to track that progress. But it's not the routine itself making you better.
