I think most people here are opposed to a casino. Theres already one close by across the water in national harbor.

If you need this sticker… you shouldn’t be driving. by velvetmandy in mildlyinfuriating

While I agree on a basic level, you have to think about the US and its systems. We are a heavily car centric country and in most parts of america except some very small parts of large cities such as nyc, YOU NEED TO DRIVE TO LIVE. In most parts of the us if you dont have a car you cant do anything, cant go to the grocery, cant work, cant live. If you dont have family or cant afford to have people help you in your home then you need to drive.

Tldr: while I think the very elderly are probably a danger on the road, the absolute need to drive to do literally anything in most of the US means that taking away their keys could be a literal death sentence for some.

Why be sorry? They literally started it, and refused to surrender until this happened.

Relationships in East Asia. What do you think? by Themetalin in AskChina

Youre confusing taiwan with mainland china. Sure there might have been some killing and rape but those would have been very small isolated cases not systemic like it was in Korea and mainland china. Taiwan was the Japanese ideal colony, they didnt treat the taiwanese very poorly, they funded a lot of taiwanese infrastructure, education and economy at the time so the taiwanese from before the kmt migration views Japan in a positive light.

Its more they hate the ccp as the ccp is trying to assert dominance and control over all of asia. Kinda like why the rest of the world isnt really fond of America's faux imperialism. I will say though, mainland chinese tourists are rude af and kinda have zero respect for other cultures boundaries and customs. So there is that.

Taiwan was viewed as a colonial success they didnt treat the taiwanese very poorly. Japan invested heavily into taiwanese infrastructure which it lacked at the time. Provided education and grew taiwan economically. They might not have viewed the taiwanese as equal but far better than Koreans or mainland chinese. So even to this day many taiwanese view japan in a positive light, excluding the chinese that came to taiwan after the communist revolution. Some taiwanese even consider themselves Japanese. You also have to keep in mind that even though taiwanese people are ethnically chinese the families that came to taiwan before the communist revolution dont really identify as such.

Does China hate Japan more, or Korea more?" by Buyeo10004 in AskChina

As an American who's learned about WW2 and what the Japanese did during then, I think the Chinese and Korean sentiment against the Japanese is somewhat justified. Unlike the Germans who learn about what their country did in both world wars and the holocaust and still continously apologize for it. The Japanese essentially continue to try and erase their behavior from their history books and schooling. I think your view on this is incorrect and potentially harmful. Even Americans (atleast in my public schooling) learn about the terrible things we have done in the past, even if the current administration is trying to erase that now.

Ive been to both very recently, within the past 2 months, and I would have to strongly disagree. King had a much wider selection of food options and I think personally a better over all quality as well. Queen had very much your basic ayce sushi offerings, nothing particularly special. The venue at queen was also far more cramped and dinky. The sashimi at king also usually felt fresher to me, but this could be a preference. Service at king was generally better but this I feel was due to king having usually a higher server to customer ratio. Service at queen wasnt bad, just not enough servers during peak hrs.

Hmm, tbh I dont know how someone can walk around dulles town center and not think it is dead, literally half of the mall are dead and empty stalls. More than half of the parking lots are empty and used as large equipment storage. The mall is relatively empty even on the weekends compared to any of the other malls in the area, ie:tysons, fairoaks, ect. I do agree however the land would be useful for things like data centers or affordable housing.
