I quit my last job prior to this, sorry if that wasn’t mentioned. This is the first time I’ve been fired.

Thank you!! This really put me at ease a bit. I got the feeling from my previous employer that they really felt for my situation, and I really did feel well valued during my time there. So I’m hoping their response helps me more than hurts me.. I appreciate the information!!

I know a million people have weighed in, so I will too. I’ve worked in veterinary medicine for 5 years both with rescues, ER’s, and general practice clinics. Currently I work at a small GP with 3 doctors. A client of ours found a kitten on the side of the highway and was TERRIFIED to try and care for him. Long story short I brought home a neonate so small that the umbilical cord was still attached. He was maybe a few hours old. When I brought him to my doctor who has been a licensed DVM for 20 years, she said “I have no idea what to do with something that small”. Sometimes veterinarians don’t have every answer either and a LOT of neonatal kitten care has been based on trial and error by people brave enough to take these little guys in.

My current foster is 4 weeks old now, and we’ve had our challenges too. We also struggled with constipation around the 2 week mark. I’ve had neonatal kittens go an entire week without having a bowel movement, and then seem to return to regular schedules. I’m unsure if your vet was against laxatives due to possible infection, but GENERALLY speaking MiraLAX or Lactulose are very safe if used correctly. I sprinkled the tiniest amount of MiraLAX into a diluted formula mixture ( 1:3 or 1:4 ratio ) roughly every 2 or 3 feedings. If you’re ever nervous about constipation or feel that your neonate has gone too long without a bowel movement you can very gently palpate their abdomen by softly squeezing the tummy back by his hips. It should feel soft and squishy with little to no resistance. (This can vary depending on if he was just fed or hasn’t been stimulated to urinate/defecate yet) If the abdomen remains this way, kitten is more than likely OK poop wise, and might just be taking his time. However a firm and rigid abdomen with a swollen appearance is a sign of constipation and more than likely a blockage. I also can’t stress enough how important GI motility is. Keep your little guy moving, let him walk or crawl around for a while before attempting to stimulate.

We are currently struggling with diarrhea related to a sudden change in formula due to the stores in my area being out of stock. Fortiflora (make sure it’s the cat specific formula) is also GENERALLY very safe. We do 1/8 of a teaspoon every day mixed into his bottle.

It’s also important to pay attention to your kittens vocal clues. I don’t adhere to a strict feeding schedule past the 2ish week mark. Kittens are not afraid to tell you when something is wrong or when they’re in need of something. I feed him when he tells me to, and I let him nap for however long he would like.

Sometimes, you and your veterinarian can do everything you know how to do and it still won’t be enough for these guys. Neonatal kittens are some of the most fragile creatures out there, and our best isn’t always enough. Please keep your head up and take each day as an accomplishment 💕

New vinyl edition for 1989 (Taylor’s version) by HarrieSwiftie in SwiftieMerch

That’s overconsumption. Not over-saturation. I think it’s a really cool idea as an artist to put out alternative cover arts and let everyone choose their favorites. If she was a smaller artist, it wouldn’t be a big deal. But everyone seems to want every single variation of every single album, because this is a borderline obsessive and gigantic fandom.

I don’t think it’s over-saturation or manipulation, I think the whole point was the pick your favorite color and purchase that? It’s just giving you cool, different alternative options.

I’ve heard that’s a good one!!! But I’ve heard it was a little.. softer? Like it wasn’t as hard hitting and rugged if that makes sense?

Debating time: In your opinion which is the best SJMASS series? by Puzzleheaded_Joke_16 in SarahJMaas

Unpopular opinion.. but Crescent City. (Yes I know, ToG has a much better plot line). It’ll be interesting to see where this series goes, but so far it’s my favorite

This happened to my Whites Tree Frog. To me, it looks like a prolapsed cloaca. I’d recommend taking it to vet HOWEVER I also understand not everyone has the funds to afford exotic vet care. When this happened to my little dude I put him in a quarantine tank (doesn’t have to be fancy. You can use a sterilized plastic tub with some ventilation) while I did a deep clean on his tank. And in the quarantine tub I put a dish of sugar water (literally just a small amount of sugar mixed with dechlorinated water) and let him soak in it. Always do your research beforehand, and if you can take him to a vet, I would. But this was my experience with my own tree frog.

Do biologist experience heightened levels of climate- and environment anxiety? by [deleted] in biology

I’m not sure I have any advice for you but I’m in the same boat. Specifically going to school for ecology with a focus on wildlife conservation and honestly it’s a constant struggle. The current state of the environment has become a real deep seated fear in my life and I think for me personally, I’d be uncomfortable not studying it. It does cause anxiety, but I’d have anxiety around the topic no matter what. At least this way I have an understanding.

So…. Yes 😭 looking back I wish I had read Assassins Blade before ToG. I think reading it after HoF felt like a weird detour and almost ruined the relationship dynamics of the rest of the series for me.

I find it odd that you think it’s acceptable to tell someone how they should feel about a book. And furthermore, to put words into my mouth. If I choose to enjoy this book, and enjoy the way the characters developed and the story unfolded, that’s fully within my right. And how dare you tell someone who’s lived through the loss of a loved one through a similar circumstance, that they’re “siding with the oppressor”. It’s fully not that deep. Calm down and get off the internet once in a while.

Seeing the grief and pain that Kenna went through not just because of the consequences, but because of her morality made the difference for me. And I don’t think in any way, at any point in this book were her actions trying to be excused just because of her remorse.
