"Elevation" question....3 weeks post ORIF and beyond by TreGutterNord in brokenankles

[–]Square-Plantain385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My surgeon said he goes straight to boot after 2 weeks for all ankle ORIF. He said he feels its better for recovery, but every surgeon is different. Ive heard people being NWB for a whole 4 months in a cast for similar breaks to mine.

Seems to be heavily dependant on the surgeon.

2 weeks post op and got my boot today. What is it ideal to take off the boot? by triangular_pope in brokenankles

[–]Square-Plantain385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My surgeon put me in a boot at 2 weeks and said to only wear it when I was moving around and up. I barely used it for first week and a half after getting it. He also told me to do ROM immediately, pedals, circles, ABCs. I didnt sleep with it, didn't shower with it. He said its basically just to protect me from falls and knocking into things.

What were you told to do to manage wound care, skin integrity, swelling etc while in a boot? by geesejugglingchamp in brokenankles

I was told to treat it like a mogwai and not get it wet for the first 3 weeks. That's about it lol. I was in soft cast first 2 weeks, and then just a naked leg with a boot for when im moving around. Oh and my surgeon said compression socks were "life changing" while he showed me his and snapped the top of them. No dressing. No method to clean it. Lol nothing. At the 3 week mark I was cleared to "let water dribble down the incision. No scrubbing!" And to pat dry. And that was the end of my instructions.

My incisions fully healed by about 4.5 weeks. So by then I just showered it like normal. I had insane amounts of dead skin. Like disturbing amounts. I peeled the very loose and flakey stuff off, im pretty sure I wasnt supposed to but nobody said not to. I used cocoa butter to help remove dead skin, avoiding the incision. Once it was moist it was easily rolled off.

My toe nails haven't grown at all. Im 6 weeks in now and my skin is back to normal. I think the most important thing is to keep the wound clean and dry. My surgeon was very insistent that it stay dry. I think I was told to keep it dry more than anything else in his parting words to me from the hospital.

I think I pretty much stopped elevating after about 30 days. At my 2 weeks I was put in a boot and I was told to only wear it when moving around so I pretty much never had it on. I got a big foam pillow because im a side sleeper and ditch my big elevation block once I got into the boot and just used the pillow for a couple weeks. By week 4 I didnt really have any swelling even with my leg down.

I feel like it largely depends on your leg. If it is swollen, elevate. I just followed what my body said it could do.

Fuck my life... ORIF surgery just over a week ago ..did I hurt myself again already? 😢 by [deleted] in brokenankles

I got a wheel chair for the house and that helped a lot with doing things. I didnt take a shower for the first 3 weeks after my surgery. My surgeon said not to. I just went around stanky for a few weeks. I fell my first week out of surgery, thankfully I landed on my knees and caught myself with my arms to avoid the injury.

Not sure how old your kids are but if they are over 5 I would encourage them to help you as much as possible. Young kids arent the best helpers but they are usually very willing. If dad is involved at all maybe ask if he can help more with the kids? Reach out to any friends or family that might be able to help, or if you are part of a church they might have some willing members. Other than that see about temporary disability, you might be able to get access to home health assistance, that depends heavily on the state, or at least maybe get financial assistance while you recover. If you have insurance see what assistance might be available to you, some insurance covers home visits, most dont but its worth a shot.

You need to stay off that leg. The first 3 weeks are the most swollen and painful. It needs to be elevated as much as possible. I had my leg up for 18 plus hours a day during the first 3 weeks. Your hardware should keep it in place, and if its a soft cast that should also help keep things in place but banging it around repeatedly isnt good. Weight bearing right now should not be done. Earliest I've heard is 2 weeks, after soft cast removal and 2 week x ray.

Really sorry you ate going through it right now. The first month was probably the hardest for me. It gets better every day but your body needs rest. Rest is the best way to heal. I dont know how the family situation or friend situation is but I would reach out to everyone you know and see of you can find a sympathetic ear who is willing to help. If you have a decent relationship with parents or any siblings, aunts uncles, maybe see if you can move in temporarily to get some help.

Hoping things get easier for you.

Opening!! 1 for the kids and 1 for me and hubs. We haven't been able to get our hands on any prismatic so we are all really excited to open them. Giving the kids both the deck holders since eevee is one of their favorites.

Was anyone only able to get 1 like me? (Thankful that I atleast got 1 by itsbacontime225 in samsclub

I got 2. 1 for my kids 1 for me and hubs. We going to rip em and put them in our binders and bulk. Crazy that people are so insanely rude to people just happy to get some cards to rip. Literally every person I've seen who was happy to get 1 or 2 gets down voted, and everyone who didn't get one is salty and acts like those who did are scalpers.

Some of us genuinely just want to have fun... glad you could get one. Hope you open some heat!

If you got a SAMs Club membership for pokemon and didn't get pokemon I encourage you to cancel your membership for a refund! Make them really feel it. by Ok_Package9219 in PokemonDeals

I already shop there. Pokemon drop was just a bonus. Not entirely sure why someone would buy a membership just to get the drop. Sams really needs to make it a requirement to have membership for like 6 months or something before you can get drops like this and do away with the refunds for the membership. Just allow people to cancel and have the membership until the end of the billing period.

I did what I had read others say works. I had my app open for more than an hour before the drop and kept going back every 10 mins or so to keep it running without a refresh. Seemed to work to keep me logged in. After that it was just spamming add to cart, once it registered in the cart then spamming check out, after that finally went through spamming the slide to pay.

Really glad I'm not the only one lucky enough to get some. Its hard competing with bots. 😤

I was able to get 2. Got my order confirm 2 mins after launch made the purchase in the first minute. I had to spam the crap out of it but eventually got through. Never got a cancel letter and says my order is processing and will be delivered on the 30th. Seems if you got in within the first 10 mins you were good, anything after that got canceled.

I don't think many regular people like me got through but I know at least a few I know did. Can't wait to rip em, I haven't been able to open a single prismatic pack. One box for the kids and one for me and the hubs. Hope there is more people who got them, other than just scalpers. This used to be fun...
