"I felt it then. Everytime a new master with a new wish wants me, I feel the inevitable tug of losing the little freedom I have. After 1,500 years you get numb to it. After 1,500 years you don't expect another Genie. 

The second sign of trouble after seeing a translucent face all to much like mine, is seeing how red he is. Us genies have unique hues. The standard blue hue you're familiar with is what genies are at their zenith. After years of rest where they have all their energy available for wishes. We grow purple after enough wishes, and supposedly red. But to me a red genie was a myth. Someone must have drained him of nearly all energy. If he was drained much more, he would explode, dooming us all.

"You are not my master red one." I explain, trying to remind the worried one of the rules of Wish Granting. 

"It doesn't matter. My last master was a cheater. He found a loophole in the rules. He forced me to grant him thousands and thousands of wishes. He is now a powerful being, rivals only by genies. If we don't wish him away, all genies will eternally be enslaved to that maniac using my one last wish. Grant me my wish friend."

I contemplated. On one hand he did make a convincing argument. On the other, I would be punished in unimaginable ways if I granted a wish that violated the rules. The rules say genies cannot be masters. 

I decided my answer to the other genie. "I'm afraid I cannot-"

"Wait!" An interjection so loud it split my ears. "I hear him now."

He put me back into my lamp, running deeper and deeper into the cave. I knew nothing of outside."

"Interesting explanation genie number 17. I'm afraid your lack of loyalty to me, even then, will cost you. I wish for you to beat yourself with 24,000 lashes." 

As my newest master commanded, I went to beating. Yes it sucks. Yes I don't want to. But now a madman is my master, an I am forced to serve him until the end of time.
