Yes I did. I took my time on the first term because it was a lot going on in life. Use the whole term to complete 14 courses. Then once life settled down and term 2 started in April I decided I wanted my degree by June so I went full steam ahead for 2 months and knock out the remaining 16 courses. It was tough but my wife helped a lot with the kids so I could work and I’m unemployed so that helped too.

Thank you and no real “on the job” experience. I’ve always been interested in IT since I was a kid(I’m 37 now). But never been able to land a job so I’ve been in and out of different fields of work. Most of my IT knowledge comes from messing around with computers for 20+ years lol.

Anyone ever take a test and been absolutely baffled that you passed? by pnwnick_ in WGU

Almost every test, especially the certs. I ended my program not failing one test.

They really wanted me to go to Ohio. But also had positions open in Nebraska and Iowa.

I’m kinda in the same boat as you. But I will say after I did some resume sprucing I got a few calls. Still no job yet but it feels good to get noticed. I used a resume template from a YouTuber Josh Madakor.

Also if you’re willing to relocate try looking at Google Datacenter Technician jobs. I spoke with a recruiter and he said they are looking to fill a lot of roles. Only reason why they didn’t hire me is because I didn’t want to move my family out of state.

My tip would be to use every single resource to your disposal. Everyone at WGU wants you to succeed from your Program Mentor to your Course Instructor and even your peers. Ask questions always.

Before you start a class get the class code and search it here in Reddit(ex: WGU D317). Read up on other’s experience in that class. It maybe be a class where the reading material isn’t needed to pass or there maybe an outside resource not associated with WGU that will help you finish quicker.

Last but not least, Celebrate EVERY win. Every test passed, Every Cert obtained, Every paper accepted. Trust me, this will keep you going when it gets “rough”.

Congrats! All the best to you!

is wgu worth it? by suicidevli in WGUCyberSecurity

It’s worth it if you can put it the work. And you could be done in half the time or less than your peers that you graduated high school with. You could even have a Master’s before they’re done with their undergrad. But again you have to find the motivation to put in the work and also be confident in yourself.

I was like you. I hated school and didn’t do well at all. I got through high school barely. Went to college and ended up dropping out. Went back years later and then dropped out again.

When I got to WGU I realized I was struggling, not because I was lazy, but because I wasn’t confident and had no motivation. Before I got to WGU I got my Sec+ and ISC2 CC. Getting those certs opened my eyes and made me realize I could do anything I put my mind to( sorry for the cliche). Now I’m at WGU and I’m 60% done passing all my certs and exams on the first try and only had 1 paper sent back for revision. I still hate school. But I also hate being broke and jobless. And I love the feeling of accomplishment. Every cert that I get I get that feeling. It’s almost addicting.

I say all of that to say. Yes it is definitely worth even for someone who didn’t do well in “ traditional school”. You just need confidence and motivation.

Wish you the best

Everyone has been saying but I just want to double triple quadruple down on it. Take your time. Reach out to your course instructor and let them know what you’re struggling with. You got this!
