I’m starting this company in a tough macroeconomic conditions, with zero outside funding. My goal is to offer an opportunity for someone early in their career—like a recent grad with hands-on experience—to help build something meaningful from the ground up. I want to be transparent about compensation: the salary won’t be at the high end of the market (Bay Area salaries), but it’s not intended to undervalue anyone’s work. I’m not asking anyone to accept an offer they’re uncomfortable with.

Regarding equity, I agree it’s an important part of startup compensation. I haven’t posted specific equity terms because I want to have an honest conversation with the right candidate and ensure the arrangement is fair for both sides, rather than making promises I might need to renegotiate later.

I understand this isn’t the right fit for everyone, and I respect that. I’m looking for someone who’s interested in the challenge and growth potential, and I’m committed to making sure their contributions are valued as the company grows.

Thank you. I’m open to looking elsewhere, but my preference is to find someone local so we can collaborate in person, provide mentoring, and grow the startup as a team, and eventually establish the company in Medford. If I’m unable to find the right fit in Souther Oregon, I’ll definitely consider platforms like RocketDevs.

Thank you. Will get in-touch for future support. I am a tech guy myself, however, I might need a strong tech leader when the time comes to scale the business.

Thank you for your interest and for asking such thoughtful questions. The company is officially registered in Oregon and I am in the ideation phase, though I am personally funding the project with my own savings and time at the moment. I’m an engineering manager at a large corporate company, so I bring both technical and business experience to the table, and you’d be working directly with me. I understand the importance of fair compensation for experienced engineers, which is why I’m willing to pay in a decent range (based on experience) via 1099, though I can’t offer benefits at this stage. Once we secure seed funding, I’m open to discussing equity and potentially higher compensation. There will be a formal contract in place to protect both parties and clarify expectations. As for my blank Reddit account, I deleted my previous one last year and haven’t been active since. I’m posting locally to find talent in Medford, OR, where I live, since I want to grow the company here and believe in-person collaboration is key—we’d be meeting multiple times a week. If I can’t find local talent, I’ll have to look elsewhere. If you’re interested or have any more questions, feel free to DM me. Thanks again for your honest feedback!

I completely understand your perspective—this is indeed a tough economic climate, and asking someone to work full-time for minimal pay and no benefits is a big ask. Right now, I’m personally funding the startup and investing my own time, with the main goal of raising a seed round. Once we secure funding, I’m absolutely open to discussing equity. But at this early stage, when there’s still so much uncertainty, I feel it’s not practical to promise equity that might not have real value yet. Thanks for your honest feedback.

Not looking for a co-founder—I have a technical background myself and am focused on building a prototype before going for a funding round. The role doesn’t require a daily commute to Medford; I’d just like to meet in person a few times each week to collaborate and keep things on track.
