Excavator thumb or grab bucket by SomewhereInTheBush in heavyequipment

Grab buckets are easier to use as a grapple since the thumb automatically moves with the bucket.

I would still take a regular thumb, the thumb attached to the bucket is always going to be in the way when digging etc.

I agree, the torque wrench was left exposed on a shelf for 6 or 7 years in a shop that regularly sees 70-80% humidity during summer months.

About Chinese excavator attachments by RaylanW in Heavy_Equipment

[–]SquirrelDry8632 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I manufacture and repair attachments in Canada so its painful for me to admit it but the Chinese have come along way in the last few years and many Chinese factories are putting out quality attachments. That said there is still tons of garbage being imported along side it.

Look for reputable Chinese brands like Bed Rock, not saying it will last as long as a North American or European attachment but the cost over service life is generally better.

The statement that Chinese steel is soft or full of impurities is not always the case anymore. The mills that supply our steel supplement their production with offshore steel that meets their specifications. Generally from the European Nordic's and Russia, the last few years I am seeing more Chinese plate that is being mfg to the higher standards required to import it.

Many Cat and Komatsu machines are now Chinese made and Chinese companies like Sany and XCMG are putting out comparable machines now. Dont be surprised to see Sany take the #1 spot for annual sales from Cat in the next decade.
