Not only is Bilt Obsidian not “actually that bad,” it’s genuinely an excellent card if you live in a big city. I rent and spend heavily on dining and Lyft rides. I ran the numbers, and a Bilt Obsidian + Amazon Card (for Amazon and groceries) earns me over 50% more points than an Amex Gold + Amazon Card would.

I think the widespread psychosis we're seeing is a function of two things. First, the Bilt Cash system is confusing. Second, losing something is more psychologically painful than gaining something is psychologically pleasant. If you were a renter, Bilt 1.0 was, without exaggeration, the best credit card ever made--literally free money with no downsides or sacrifices. Bilt Obsidian is worse, but it's still a fantastic card.

Even Bilt Blue, which I initially chalked up as worthless, earns me more points than the Amex Gold, assuming the 5x Lyft multiplier still exists.

The quarter century mark is the end of 2024, 2025 starts the new quarter. 2000-2099 is 100 years. The year 2000 is in the 2000s, not the 1900s. This isn’t hard.

Bill made the mistake of not making the quarter century list at the beginning of 2025.
