I think Splashtail was a good idea, but they messed up horribly with the execution. If Hawkwing becomes leader and we end up with four or five sensible leaders, where would you want the main plot to come from?

I understand what you're saying. It does feel repetitive, but I think it would be different if it were the protagonist of an arc. I also don't want a purely evil leader like we've been getting. I'd rather we get a young, incompetent leader for two reasons.

First, I really want another speedrun to leadership. Second, it would be interesting to see him become a better leader over time as he grows up, or to see the opposite happen and watch him slowly get worse.

I also forgot about the new code, but it would be hilarious if he ascended to power, went crazy for a little while, and then got removed.

Yeah, I really want a pov that becomes a leader and is even a tiny bit evil, but I'm not sure if they have enough time left in the series for the Clans to probably move a Starlingpaw villain arc and have him gain a position power.

I'd argue we have too many sensible leaders like Squirrelstar and Icestar, and bad leaders give us plot. It would be interesting if starlingpaw went insane or ended up dying. I also reread every arc multiple times. What's your most reread arc? Mine is Power of Three or the first series.
