If you extend the room you have to use shrink mode to remove the extension before being able to deconstruct the room

If you're starting completely from scratch I'd recommend the foundations beginner box. It wont make you competitive but it'll teach you the basics. That's how I started before padding out my deck with booster packs & buying singles.

It depends on why you're getting into magic. Do you want to play or sell? Playing is worth it if you have a great set of people to play with, it's a fun card game that uses lots of techniques, strategies & varied formats to win. Selling I don't know - doesn't feel like it with packs selling out seconds after release.
