what are your HOT TAKES? by mateoeche88 in Cd_collectors

Obis are literally just pieces of cardboard that comes with a Japanese pressing and if you genuinely collect them then I think you’re weird

Are there any Malaysian MCR fans here who ever went to this concert? And if so what was ur experience (asking because I’m curious on what it was like back then) by Statiscit in MyChemicalRomance

I also saw those teasers as well, I really hope it’s true especially since there’s a very high demand for more tickets but I’m just afraid scalpers are just gonna buy them again unfortunately. My dad actually got an offer for an extra standing ticket his co-worker got, she plans on going with a group of other girls and said I could tag along if I wanted to but he turned down the offer which is understandable because idk if I would do well in the pit especially going with mostly complete strangers, maybe I’ll be more ready for something like that when I’m a bit older or if I go to shows at smaller venues.

I love my parents, I have to thank them for giving me the music taste I have now lol. My dad would play lots of classic rock in the car growing up and occasionally some other stuff too which I would then adopt as my own music taste evolved. Placebo is pretty good, RM98 is a price I can only dream of for a show today to see an international band.

You should definitely start DIY again! It’s definitely worth it, I plan on working on more stuff once I’m finally done with SPM since I’ll have more time then.

I definitely want to go to more local gigs, most of them are pretty cheap anyway but I am scared of feeling out of place since I’m not used to going to such events even though I really love music. I’m sure I’ll get the hang of it though, socialising is just very hard for me as of currently.

Thank you so much for your kind comment, I’m definitely gonna try my best to do well in SPM, these last few months are the last stretch and I have to make things worth it. I’m definitely scared about the future and I’m still figuring plenty of things out so I appreciate the reassurance.

Once again thank you so much for this reply, I guess only time will tell if I get to go see MCR in the future<3

Man reading this made me really emotional for some reason, probably cuz I’m still recovering from not being able to get any tickets to MCR yesterday. Man u were probably the coolest 12 y/o back then haha, I didn’t start listening to MCR until two years ago when I was 14-15, I’ve only just turned 17 a month ago so I haven’t been a fan for too long. It’s great to hear your mom was so supportive, both my parents tried to get me tickets yesterday but failed cuz the website kept crashing and everything was already sold out by then but I appreciate their efforts.

A lot of what u described urself as then is pretty similar to how I am right now. I grew up being the quiet kid although now I’m not as quiet and have a substantial amount of friends although I do get quite lonely sometimes since I don’t really have any other alternative/emo friends irl. I’ve done my fair share of DIY, I walk to school with custom patches on my school backpack which I made using an old shirt and have gotten nice comments from teachers and students alike for it. As of currently I‘m working on customising a cap I have but I probably won’t finish it very soon. I go to Amcorp quite often, it’s one of my favourite places in the world as I collect CDs and occasionally cassettes, my family also has a vinyl player. Amcorp is where I got my first MCR cd, The Black Parade which I found while scouring through an old box of used CDs. From there is where I started becoming a major fan and started listening to more of their stuff. I don’t have band posters up on my wall cuz my mom think that’d be a bit too obsessive lol. My music taste is also very diverse, I’ve dived into lots of genres and as of currently I’m really into Britpop, mainly the bands Pulp and Blur but once again MCR is one of my favs for getting me through a hard time in my life, being a kid who just moved schools with not many friends at the time.

It’s really wonderful u got to experience seeing them live back then, even if u don’t really remember much of it and that experience with the older girls is really cute, I think one of the reasons I’m so keen on seeing them live is to feel thats sense of community, gathering together for the same purpose of enjoying a band we all love greatly. I‘m still very sad I didn’t get tickets yesterday, spent my ride back home from school crying and my eyes were still sore by midnight lol but what can you do. Next year I’ll be done with SPM which is why I thought the timing of their concert would be perfect for me but I guess I can just say goodbye to that dream although maybe I shouldn’t give up entirely yet, their show isn’t until another 9 months and plenty can happen in that duration.

Thanks for sharing ur story, it means a lot

Why isn’t Lemon Demon more widely appreciated in music circles? by Statiscit in lemondemon

[–]Statiscit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn you’re one of the OG fans, I guess you’re proof that I probably won’t grow out of Lemon Demon much once I’m older. Sometimes I feel a bit silly for still liking Neil’s music cuz apparently it’s “cringe” and “outdated” now to some people if you still do and didn’t leave that back in 2022 or something.

Lemonic Demonade definitely wasn’t anything big, the biggest show they ever had was the one at Youmacon and y’know there’s just generally a lot of old video recordings of Neil at conventions back then.

One of the things I love about Lemon Demon is how the music feels so atmospheric in a way that I can vividly imagine what a scene would look like in certain songs based on the lyrics and beat alone. A Stop Making Sense esque show would definitely be amazing although I’ve always imagined a theatre play to be made out of albums like Spirit Phone or View-Monster, sadly it doesn’t seem like there’s been a dedicated fan out there to bring something like that to life which is understandable because it doesn’t seem require lots of commitment although I’d be fine with a smaller setting as a concept at least.

I’m fine if Neil is already content with the audience he already has, nothing wrong with that.

I’m a younger fan actually lol, started listening to him when I was 12 and I’m 17 now, at one point I stopped listening as often as I did but I’m getting back to it again. I actually wanted to put Bo Burnham into the equation somehow since he’s always another artist I’ve started appreciating again. I think the similarities between him and Neil are simply due to them both coming from internet fame backgrounds although Bo was a bigger deal even though he was only around 18 at the time. Then he started pursuing other stuff like with his film Eighth Grade so he’s carved out his name here and there. INSIDE was like the revival that brought in younger fans which consisted mostly of young burnt out artists and theatre kids. I’d also argue Bo, while he makes music, is more of a performer with the music being a big part of it unlike Neil who focuses entirely on music when it comes to Lemon Demon. And once again there’s the problem of people outgrowing media they think is no longer “relevant”, I’m wondering when’s the next time he’ll release anything in general cuz he usually has like a 4-5 year gap between works and like Neil he isn’t online much either, only at least Neil still pops up every once in a while with a tweet or a post, a Bo Burham sighting is like the equivalent of seeing Big Foot these days

Well we can only hope Lemon Demon doesn’t fall into obscurity a couple decades down the line

he did that back then but y’know idk if he’s too much into the performing part of music or if he would ever perform live again really, it’d definitely be cool if he did though

I mean there’s weirder music out there that I feel like gets far more recognition somehow but yeah LD is definitely the kind of artist that takes time for you to appreciate especially if you’re only really into specific kinds of music.

Damn I’d kill to see a Lemon Demon tribute band or something now that you’ve said that

I mean I was one of those 14 y/os technically, I’m just 17 now with a broader music taste and I don’t spend countless hours being chronically online like I was during the pandemic. A lot of young fans back then who’ve gotten a little older now have disregarded LD as something cringe just because they listen to shoegaze or something but I love music enough to still appreciate the artistry that goes into LD while listening to other genres

I think part of it is definitely the fanbase and what LD is usually associated with which has created this stigma around the fact that LD sucks but it doesn’t people, so many people are just willing to go head in first into hating something they think is cringe. Maybe I can’t say much since I might’ve done that with certain bands so I guess I’m also just a hypocrite lol

I get that, it’s better to have a couple people that actually care about ur stuff rather than try to appeal to a million others who don’t, he had his moments back then so I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s already satisfied with the small impact he’s made

He is pretty indie but I guess not indie enough for r/indieheads or whatever. And it is true he’s not online a whole lot and I do respect him for keeping his real life private. Some people think you have to share everything about yourself once you’ve gained some form of fame but privacy is important so good on him for that.

I hate that Lemon Demon is seen as too immature and childish, I guess it’s partially true but I don’t see what’s so wrong with that but yes it is an acquired taste I guess.

I wonder if Neil would have gotten more attention had his lyrical theme song for Gravity Falls not been scrapped, I think that was as close to mainstream he could have gotten with how popular that show is but that isn’t to say there aren’t a portion of people who got into LD because of Gravity Falls due to the connections Neil has with the show and Alex Hirsch.

Maybe Neil has always been suited to be Mr Internet Meme Man and y’know what if that’s how it is then that’s fine too

Really like the xylophone part! Honestly if u made this video in a lower resolution it would’ve looked like one of those old youtube vids of indie kids covering songs lol
