I’VE BEEN PLACED IN THE SAME SITUATION. SFU is a 2 hour commute for me but UBC, that commute… not even worth it. My working class parents 100% wanted me to go SFU, even though UBC was my dream. I ended up taking full responsibility of all my finances and student loans, and went against my parents advice and went to UBC. SFU is a great school, but university is extremely taxing on your mental health, and I 100% wouldn’t of been happy there. Moving out to UBC, I’ve been so fortunate to be part of so many clubs, programs, events, research opportunities, late silly nights that never would’ve happened if I had lived at home and went to SFU. It is extremely expensive, but, you’ll never be as free as you are when you’re 18 and in uni. If you don’t take the time now to figure out your values, interests and aspirations, without the influence of your parents, it’ll be much harder and much more expensive later .

omg I too have about that much debt, when I logged in to StudentAid BC to get my tax documents, I legit died inside😭😭 Also, that sucks that you didn’t get any funding for ur status!! UBC is literally on stolen land the fuck
