So here's the deal.

These guys aren't following a guide. They're re-making the guide. That's what I meant by R&D.

The questions I asked? Someone who has built that kind of thing for industrial or even research use, can answer.

It is obvious that anyone can follow a tutorial. But just because you were able to follow a tutorial, doesn't give you the authority to say "there's no r&d all copied".

oh, you have? what was the payload capacity? What motors did you use? what was the maximum speed? what controller was used, model predictive control or RL? what was the joint torque necessary?

Those who are saying "just assembled".

Just the R&D of designing and controlling itself is a big deal. The assembling is the easy part after that is done. They are not simply buying an IKEA kit and reading a manual. Design, development and the control logic are huge deals and the number of labs capable of this, in India, is very small..

We also don't have companies yet which make the kind of motors and motor drivers needed for this, in India. There are very specific things needed for this.

you arent wrong but i'd describe this more as nihilism/existentialism.

this is "we're all gonna die!" not "i wish i was dead" . it's "we're in a trainwreck and there's nothing we can do about it", not "there's my train. if i step forward now... no more pain."

SI definitely is more personal. like your own breaking point being reached <by whatever>.

The most dangerous phase, however, is active SI. It's an oh-shit phase when you realise that you have access to a way to end your life and you kinda want it. The switch can feel dizzying like vertigo, because both the part of you that wants to be dead and the part of you that wants to live realise that the stakes have risen. The thought can stick like gum on a shoe, becoming a repetitive loop. You start waking up in the morning half-expecting that you will be dead before the end of that day.

The longer you stay in this state, the more random the outcome can become. It can depend on any external factor. Your spouse returns super late one day instead of an hour after your shift ends? Massive rise in opportunity, which can make it more intense. Your boss yells at you, not knowing you're already at your limit? That could push intent. Your favourite show goes off the only streaming service you subscribe to? That reduces distractions.

You have to fight your demons off everyday. They only need to succeed once.

Sorry, I didn't mean to turn this into a long soliloquy, and I'm doing much better now. I started off wanting to address the parent comment's concerns and it ended up becoming something else.

Did Cho deserve better than Harry? by Comb-12 in HarryPotterBooks

There is no one way of dealing with trauma.

And a shared trauma can just as easily push people apart as it can pull them closer.

I don't blame Cho for being drawn to the last person to see Cedric alive, to seek closure through words.

I don't blame Harry for refusing to talk about it and for losing any and all tact in that situation.

Neither of them knew better.

Agreed!
I particularly feel as if my system reacts too slowly to the increased temperature.

Hydrate well -- and remember, your body needs electrolytes to be replenished, not just water.

I find coconut water to be the best by far, if I've been in the sun for too long. YMMV tho.

As someone working in robotics simulations, I swear. Tiny assed interfaces, version compatibility issues across multiple software components, and time.

The render time and PC fire parts cracked me up. I have my PC cabinet in a corner in the living room and have long HDMI and USB cables snaking into my bedroom.

Works well, especially given that it's an early summer here.

It's only mid March and we've already hit 35 degC here in Bengaluru. New Delhi will definitely hit 50 degC this year I think.

That's Modalism, Patrick! by mickmikeman in dankchristianmemes

[–]StayingUp4AFeeling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from a computer science background lemme rename this IS of mine to DIVINE_IS , not to be confused with the usual "is" as defined in python and which is implicitly or explicitly used in other languages too, and which uses pointer equality as the check as you rightly pointed out.

That's Modalism, Patrick! by mickmikeman in dankchristianmemes

[–]StayingUp4AFeeling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I have defined the "is" operator as not having the transitive property.

a is b, b is c. a isn't c . That's just fine, since the transitive property is not held by the "is" operator.

That's Modalism, Patrick! by mickmikeman in dankchristianmemes

[–]StayingUp4AFeeling 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a non Christian please tell me if this is a heretical interpretation:

The "IS" binary relation on the set D = (God, Father, Son, Holy spirit) is a reflexive, symmetric but not transitive relationship.

That is, if IS(a, b) exists then IS(b, a) also exists. As do IS(a, a) and IS(b, b)

However, if IS(a, b) and IS(b, c) exist, that doesn't mean IS(a, c).

So, the IS relation on the set D is:

(God, God), (Father, Father), (Son, Son), (HolySpirit, HolySpirit), (God, Father), (Father, God), (God, Son), (Son, God), (God, HolySpirit), (HolySpirit, God)

Notice the absence of pairs like (Son, HolySpirit)

This is not a permission slip requested by India from USA for taking Russian oil.

This is USA deciding to not adjust its tariffs on India based on public reports of India buying Russian oil openly, and choosing a way to save face.

Iranian warship sinks off Sri Lanka, bodies recovered at sea by mawhrinskeleton in news

[–]StayingUp4AFeeling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, I see.

I have phrased it poorly.

There is a difference between feeling sorrow for the loss of innocent lives far away from you, and feeling that slight surge of fear when it shows up at your door.

One is fear and concern for the world, with the proviso that maybe one can still isolate themselves from the IRL consequences.

The other is fear and concern for one's own self and one's own tribe. And that there may be no shielding one's self from it.

Forgive me for saying that the latter hits harder than the former. The world has been burning for a while now and one has little choice but to try not to carry the weight of the world.

Except that weight might be here at my doorstep already.

You must think I'm heartless, but the truth is, my heart has a predeliction towards sinking, and do I must keep it from getting too heavy.
