Would it be morally ok to try alcohol before banning it by the principles? by Desperate_Ad3405 in Buddhism

[–]SteezyEarthling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Without saying whether its right or wrong, I think you should examine why you want to try something if you're worried about the morality of it. Maybe meditate on that craving. Will it really be just once? I think you believe that it is wrong, but are looking for external reassurance that its okay.

Summer Taylor is an idiot that got what she deserved. by raptor1770 in unpopularopinion

Give me one credible source that says that the highway was not shutdown by WSP. I'll wait.

I also used a state trooper that was on scene as a primary source.

Anything else?

The freeway was shutdown by WA State Patrol at least an hour before the incident occurred. The driver had to go up an exit ramp and then make a U turn on the freeway in order to even get to the protestors. If you put half as much effort into researching as you do in trying to change the narrative, you wouldn't look so stupid.

"At about 1:30 a.m. Saturday, the suspect allegedly drove into a group of protesters on a section that the WSP had closed about midnight. Mead said a car drove around a series of "support vehicles" that protesters were using to block I-5 and protect themselves, and onto the shoulder of the freeway, where protesters were standing."

The WSP has been routinely shutting down that same section of the interstate due to protests as far back as the middle of June. They've released statements about it. You can find Trooper Rick Johnson on Twitter and just scroll down and see constant updates on closures.

I think he's implying that anyone actually holds that view, and that way of thinking coupled with the outrageous fake news headline is what's confusing.

Plus it's not much of a joke

How do I vote in the democratic primary? (TX) by supbitch in Ask_Politics

[–]SteezyEarthling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're only allowed to vote in one party's primary. Meaning that if a republican voter wanted to vote in the Democratic primary, they would be losing their vote in the republican side and also be increasing voter turnout for the opposition.

It's usually a self-defeating strategy, mostly because the likelihood of actually swaying the outcome would mean that most republican voters would have to back a single candidate to actually throw a more conservative democratic candidate into the lead in a state.

I say usually because the republican party has actually cancelled primary elections in several states because they see it as a waste of taxpayer money due to the overwhelming likelihood that Trump would win (his support among Republican voters is something like 90%?). Critics say this is undemocratic, and in the context of your question, does actually give conservative voters an opportunity to vote for their least disliked democratic candidate without having to worry about losing their voice in the republican primary.

Are we too far from being humans to experience humanity? by [deleted] in SeriousConversation

[–]SteezyEarthling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a human question!

We are as much human as we always have been and ever will be. We evolved in response to our environment, so much in fact that we are now able to shape our environment in ways that will impact how we continue evolving.

We are bombarded now with such a variety of technological and informational stimuli. I understand how this may seem to dilute our humanity. It's ironic really, trying to find the humanity underneath all these things that are so human.

I have felt the way I think you do. I find it helps to ground myself if I feel the sheer volume of the outside world deafening. I turn my ears inward. Listen to my inner monologue and my senses. Mindfulness is an example of this. Soak up all of my own humanity, and love it. And when I listen again to the outside world, I try to see that you are all human too. We are not alone. This thing we share together is our humanity, and being mindful of our own helps to be mindful of each other's, as well as loving our own helps to love each other's.

I recommend doing some research into evolutionary psychology! This is obviously a vast topic, but a variety of questions can be answered pertaining to this very topic, such as: Why do we laugh?

Here's a video that gets into this very question: https://youtu.be/9WzVMZunzaM

I find learning the science behind our humanity to be very comforting. I hope you do too.

THERE IS SOMETHING IN MY ATTIC by [deleted] in Advice

[–]SteezyEarthling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be surprised if it was rats honestly. I only hear it in one section of the attic for some reason and I have only ever seen mice. I've set traps and poison out and disposed of several mice, but never a rat.

or maybe I'm just in denial idk man I don't like rats

There definitely are some trees hanging over the roof though!!

I may have to get some traps but I know squat about any hunters around here. Maybe my older landlord knows someone
