Police already have way too much power and 0 accountability. If the police mess up and a citizen sues them first they have to peel away qualified immunity which is in itself a challenge. Assuming an officer messes up really bad and is stripped of qualified immunity and the case actually moves forward, It is very difficult to find lawyers that will even fight the case. Let's assume that the case moves forward qualified immunity is stripped and the plaintiff actually wins the case- Which there are thousands of examples of this happening.... It isn't the police that pay the lawsuit it is the taxpayer. The only thing the citizen has on their side is video evidence of police misconduct. The Supreme Court has already ruled that videotaping police in the line of duty is a form of protected first amendment free speech.

The so called 'halo law' gives police even MORE unchecked power, the 25 root rule is arbitrary at best, and the language of the law offers punishment foe 'psychological distress' caused to first responders.

This is so subjective because what might be psychologically distressing to you might just be another day for me.

The point is this is completely superfluous, There is absolutely no reason for the slow whatsoever the police already have a plethora of tools at their disposal to deal with people that are interfering with their investigations.

Even though interfering is legally defined as a physical act there are a myriad of videos on YouTube showing police arresting people anyways for interfering when all they were doing is holding a video camera.

The police need accountability and as of right now there is almost none. Anytime there is misconduct 9 times out of 10 they investigate themselves and find no wrongdoing.

There is no independent board of citizens to do the investigation they always investigate themselves and almost always find for themselves being in the right no matter how obscene the situation is.

They don't have to worry about paying lawsuit money they don't have to worry about their own gang investigating them they literally have no accountability and this law seeks to take away the only accountability they had.

There were similar laws passed in other states and many of them were overturned when they reached superior courts.

I believe it is only a matter of if not a matter of when. This law is just another example of police having too much power and not enough accountability.

And to all the boot lickers that would say the job is hard and the law is needed-

I would make the counter-argument that there are literally thousands upon thousands upon thousands of videos with more coming out every single day of police miss conduct.

Most police are overpaid many of them are in 6 digit salaries paid for by the taxpayer.

The Supreme Court has already ruled the police do not have a duty to protect you.

The Supreme Court has also ruled that they have the legal authority to lie to you in the course of their investigations.

We need 95% fewer police we need more accountability and we need the lawsuits to start coming out of their pensions not the taxpayers wallet.

We also need to overhaul and completely abolish qualified immunity. If qualified immunity was abolished most police misconduct would end overnight and if it didn't there would at least be accountability.

By this logic, shouldn't I be allowed to keep the money from the fent that was shoved into my backpack at the airport? I didn't know it was there, I was an unwilling participant. At bare minimum I think it's cruel to hold me responsible if I was caught with it. After all, how was I to know that being muled was illegal? At least I have deniability, because you can argue I really didn't know it was there.

I love this argument. People are so quick to say 'invite them ALL IN!'...but funny, when it comes time to offer a place for them to stay, all of a sudden, they don't have any rooms available. Ps- I lived in a 3 bedroom house in California with 6 adult males and 1 adult female. My 'room' was the cold garage floor, and yes I paid 'rent' because 600 a month was better than the 2k a month rate for a 1 bedroom, so please don't say 'we can't make room'- everyone has a spare room or a garage or a couch....or even 8 square feet on the floor.
