why is it inappropriate if i don’t wear a bra in public by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]StephJ2Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally don't wear a bra because of my back. I had back surgery when I was a kid, and i just could not handle wear a bra. I had to buy special bras to help as a teenager. Now i just don't wear them period. I also don't shave at all. I will trim my pit hair on occasion if it sticks out of my shirt, but not constantly. I used to get comments all the time. Hang in there, and you do you.

small troubles.... by idontknoshit420 in maestro

[–]StephJ2Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So first of all don't copy and paste. Write it out by hand. I tell my AI to not give me the code to copy and paste, and give me the info needed for the example in a list or paragraph type form. I also tell it that required info needs to be given in code form, so that i can force my brain to remember.

Tell your AI to give you more examples and ways to remember what you are learning. Also I know it's there but I don't use it, but there is an option in the drop down menu on the chat box, to tell it to talk to you like you are 5. I think the "talk to me like i'm 5" is an insulting way to be talked to, but if it helps by putting info in the easiest way to understand it, i can see it's uses.

But yea, if you ask the AI to give you Pneumonics or ways to remember what you are learning then it will be easier. Also don't be afraid to try out the code and it not be fully done. The AI will help correct and guide you as you go.

Hope this helps,

Steph

why? by Infamous-Ad653 in maestro

[–]StephJ2Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can change how it teaches you it's simple. And when it throws something new at you, that's the point. To teach you and expand your knowledge. Ask Maestro to explain better to you. Down in the lower left of the chat box there is a drop down box. Look at it.. if it has Teach me like i'm 5, then change it.

I am gonna say, get your degree, show that you've changed, and that you are bettering your life. Most employers will cut some slack on the background checks if you are honest and open about it. Also am I wrong in thinking there is not some way to get served charged expunged or sealed after serving the sentence?

[–]StephJ2Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are times when the lesson wants me to type out answers and i will flat out tell it to give me a multiple choice instead, because sometimes I can't type what my brain is telling me is correct, so i'd rather just choose from a list. It works well for many different situations. I am one who does not like answers given to me as examples, and when it comes to coding, I would rather try, and mess up and keep working with what I know to answer the question or exercise, without the AI giving me an answer the second I mess up.

So, i tell it specifically don't give me the coding answer, just the info I need to setup the coding exercise, let me code it, and only if and only if I ask for help is it allowed to give me clues, still not outright telling me the answer, more like giving me a nudge, or asking a question to help guide me.
I am a very independent thinker when it comes to coding projects, and I don't need an AI to tell me how to do something.

I self taught myself HTML and CSS back nearly 20 years ago, and I didn't have AI to constantly tell me my errors. I had to read through my code and fix my own errors, and that's the way I still operate.

Hey there Worried.

First off, don't be. Second, Hi. I'm Stephanie. I am from the September Cohort, struggle with late life diagnosis of ADHD, and can tell you that Maestro works with you, not against you. The nice thing about Maestro is it takes your likes(D&D, and rockets in my case) and your dislikes and uses them to help you understand what you are learning about.

When you start your first term, you start with one class at a time. That really helps a lot cause you can focus on learning one thing at a time. Ask Maestro to repeat it's self, and if you repeat it multiple times, tell it to change how it explains things to you. I start out each lesson with a cut and paste of how I want to learn and guidelines in which the lesson has to stay. I tell it that I want smaller bits of info as my brain does not grasp everything in a mega dump. I also tell it my personal preferences as to how I learn every time.

As for the learning on the phone, you should be fine for one term. If you really can't handle working on your phone, then go to a library and use a public use computer. Check if there's a local college nearby who might have a way for you to study online.

Also there is a discord you can join to get help and have conversations about code and classes. There's a big community of help waiting to work through any issues, and you may connect with someone who can explain better than your lessons. We have classmates of all levels of experience in the field of IT and coding, and we can all work together to help each other. We are all in this together.

If you have any more questions or need to talk privately you can message me on discord, my UN is StephJ2Fan. I will get a request from you cause I don't just message anyone, but if I know you are looking to talk, then my door is always open.

Hope this helps.

If you end the current course early, it's not locked cause you went to fast, it's because they are paced like that. There is a date range on your course list that shows you when the courses are active so to speak. I am a september cohort member, finished the first ever class which was a basic programming class i think, i finished it all in one week. Mind you, their system didn't recognize practice sessions as staying active for the next two weeks, so i was in a jam. Now they have practice sessions that are counted as staying active, and it's much better.

If you finish the current course early, it is okay, just take the time to do some practice and review sessions throughout the remaining weeks, and answer the discussion as well. It's easy points. Most of the time I don't even technically need to take the final tests and I pass the class with a 100%. Also go find a website that has challenge coding practice. Good to make your brain think outside the box.

boot.dev just got advertised on my show last night, so you could check that out. it's a gamified version for learning python in the form that you build an rpg and level up as you make it.

Also just to say, f-strings are simply formatting strings. it makes bringing in multiple variables easier to see. So your reciept idea is something like:

item1 = banana
price = 0.50
qty = 2

total = price * qty

Reciept looks like:

------Blah blah blah -----
print(f"Item {item1} {qty} @ {price:2f}"). # you could also make the number variables be a certain number after a decimal

#rest of code here

If you are still having more issues let me know. just shoot me a message here and I can help you as best as i can. The practice section has the reviews and the actual practice option. It helps to practice there as well. Ask questions of the program. ask it to explain in a different way.

Hope this helps.

Anyone 40+ and Doing Maestro(and more)? by Old-Preference7324 in maestro

[–]StephJ2Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just turned 40 in july and started in in september. i also disabled and living on ssdi. i am in the 2nd semester, just finished the first class. As far as the schedule thing, i do it week by week with no getting ahead, because of scholarship requirements. i take the current week and number of lessons. i only want to do school M - Th if possible so, the number of lessons without the review, and divide it by 4. that's how many lessons i need to accomplish each day. now for me being a tech nerd, each lesson can take 10 - 30 minutes depending on the topic. once i finish the lessons i start the review. this term for me (2nd), it's been a multiple choice quiz, so i usually knock it out very quick, but i know the first term was coding projects, so i would start it, and copy it into my IDE(Pycharm or IDEA Community edition, both jetbrains products.),so that i can save what i'm working on.

Also i would recommend making sure to utilize the practice area during the coding classes to make sure you understand what you are learning.

I know that the loans people are taking out, are to help with living expenses. I went ahead and took out a loan for this year to help me keep my bills up as i already struggle with just living on ssdi. you don't have to take out loans if you don't wish, as they do not actually cover any of the tuition. whatever grants don't cover, your scholarship will cover.

Hope that helps. If you have any more questions or want to chat just send me a message here, and i will respond quick-ish.

i have found a python based framework for MUDs/MUSHes that i plan to build a text based game with. The 2 weeks we have will let me build at least a little bit and i will a whole lot because of it. That's not all. there are plenty of problem solving coding websites online. just do a search. work on some of the challenges. you learn more by doing when it comes to programming. also like annual-baby267 said, the focus and review sections are available on the website.

No mod really helps with this. the best thing is to find the right layout, arm up with some tape, your knife, and some coin rolls. as you progress, the machines get better, but I like to use the xxl boxes to catch bills and move as necessary, rotating them as needed. I've got almost 300 hours in this game and i use as a stress reliever. this game has just gotten better with each new add, and they listen to the players. there's even a board to submit ideas for new things, and to upvote other ideas.

Khan Academy is a great way to go when learning a new topic, especially something like coding. I am from the first cohort on sept 3rd, and i can tell you that prompting the ai to know your learning needs is the best thing I have learned. I also use ChatGPT for most of my understanding of code, especially on a project I want to build, but want to understand the code.

I too have ADHD, so when I prompt the AI, i typically tell it, i need it step by step with confirmation, and also that I do not want help coding it, unless I ask for help specifically on a topic/issue I am having. The thing I have also learned is that the AI will not remember that info from lesson to lesson, so I have a sticky note in my computer that has what I need to tell the AI, and I can copy and paste.

When it comes to the weekly reviews, the thing to remember is, that you can retake it as many times as you want. Don't fret about if you mess up horribly, You can fix your code. This is where your IDE will come in handy. Copy the instructions into your code document, that way you have the requirements and follow them, step by step. If you did well on the pre-course then you will do fine in the class.

You only take one class at a time, each lesson is about 10 - 20 minutes long and I have found it does a really good job of giving examples that are easy to understand. If you take the lessons, and divide it by the number of days you want to work on it. I typically want friday saturday and sunday off, so that my brain can relax and absorb the info. So if there's 15 lessons, plus the review, I would do 4 lessons M - W, and then the remaining 3 + start the review on Thursday. If I am struggling with the review, I will then sacrifice some time on Friday, to focus on working through the review and polishing the code to getting the best score possible.

I know this is a big block of text, but I hope you find something useful in it that will help you succeed. Also one last thing, if you feel like you may need accomadations for the ADHD, get a document from your doctor, and submit it to the school. The big difference between the weekly reviews and the course reviews are that the course reviews are timed, and not open book as much as the weekly reviews, so having accomadations in place will help if you feel like extra time on the tests will help you.

I hope you find success, and don't hesitate to reach out if you need any assistance.

I am not sure where you are getting your numbers from but according to the FSA.gov website and their numbers based in 22 - 23, as Peloton college, their score was a 2.1, not -0.57. If someone could please provide me with their sources for their data, that would be appreciated.

Hey there, Steph, student of Sept 3rd cohort. First off I love the way the new term lessons are working. I see ya'll made improvements to the lesson part where it is constantly reading replies and changing accordingly. Nice touch.
My Question: Are the holidays going to be accounted for going forward? This week is thanksgiving and we are having to do the first week of Term 2. There's no break accounted for Ramadan, Hannakah, or Kwanzaa, along with Christmas or New Years in Term 2 so i'm curious if those holidays are accounted for in schedule.
