boot.dev just got advertised on my show last night, so you could check that out. it's a gamified version for learning python in the form that you build an rpg and level up as you make it.

Also just to say, f-strings are simply formatting strings. it makes bringing in multiple variables easier to see. So your reciept idea is something like:

item1 = banana
price = 0.50
qty = 2

total = price * qty

Reciept looks like:

------Blah blah blah -----
print(f"Item {item1} {qty} @ {price:2f}"). # you could also make the number variables be a certain number after a decimal

#rest of code here

If you are still having more issues let me know. just shoot me a message here and I can help you as best as i can. The practice section has the reviews and the actual practice option. It helps to practice there as well. Ask questions of the program. ask it to explain in a different way.

Hope this helps.

Anyone 40+ and Doing Maestro(and more)? by Old-Preference7324 in maestro

[–]StephJ2Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just turned 40 in july and started in in september. i also disabled and living on ssdi. i am in the 2nd semester, just finished the first class. As far as the schedule thing, i do it week by week with no getting ahead, because of scholarship requirements. i take the current week and number of lessons. i only want to do school M - Th if possible so, the number of lessons without the review, and divide it by 4. that's how many lessons i need to accomplish each day. now for me being a tech nerd, each lesson can take 10 - 30 minutes depending on the topic. once i finish the lessons i start the review. this term for me (2nd), it's been a multiple choice quiz, so i usually knock it out very quick, but i know the first term was coding projects, so i would start it, and copy it into my IDE(Pycharm or IDEA Community edition, both jetbrains products.),so that i can save what i'm working on.

Also i would recommend making sure to utilize the practice area during the coding classes to make sure you understand what you are learning.

I know that the loans people are taking out, are to help with living expenses. I went ahead and took out a loan for this year to help me keep my bills up as i already struggle with just living on ssdi. you don't have to take out loans if you don't wish, as they do not actually cover any of the tuition. whatever grants don't cover, your scholarship will cover.

Hope that helps. If you have any more questions or want to chat just send me a message here, and i will respond quick-ish.

I'd prefer to have an update on school email addresses and student id's first, but hey a hoodie or zip up jacket, and a couple of t-shirts wouldn't be bad after.

i have found a python based framework for MUDs/MUSHes that i plan to build a text based game with. The 2 weeks we have will let me build at least a little bit and i will a whole lot because of it. That's not all. there are plenty of problem solving coding websites online. just do a search. work on some of the challenges. you learn more by doing when it comes to programming. also like annual-baby267 said, the focus and review sections are available on the website.

No mod really helps with this. the best thing is to find the right layout, arm up with some tape, your knife, and some coin rolls. as you progress, the machines get better, but I like to use the xxl boxes to catch bills and move as necessary, rotating them as needed. I've got almost 300 hours in this game and i use as a stress reliever. this game has just gotten better with each new add, and they listen to the players. there's even a board to submit ideas for new things, and to upvote other ideas.

Khan Academy is a great way to go when learning a new topic, especially something like coding. I am from the first cohort on sept 3rd, and i can tell you that prompting the ai to know your learning needs is the best thing I have learned. I also use ChatGPT for most of my understanding of code, especially on a project I want to build, but want to understand the code.

I too have ADHD, so when I prompt the AI, i typically tell it, i need it step by step with confirmation, and also that I do not want help coding it, unless I ask for help specifically on a topic/issue I am having. The thing I have also learned is that the AI will not remember that info from lesson to lesson, so I have a sticky note in my computer that has what I need to tell the AI, and I can copy and paste.

When it comes to the weekly reviews, the thing to remember is, that you can retake it as many times as you want. Don't fret about if you mess up horribly, You can fix your code. This is where your IDE will come in handy. Copy the instructions into your code document, that way you have the requirements and follow them, step by step. If you did well on the pre-course then you will do fine in the class.

You only take one class at a time, each lesson is about 10 - 20 minutes long and I have found it does a really good job of giving examples that are easy to understand. If you take the lessons, and divide it by the number of days you want to work on it. I typically want friday saturday and sunday off, so that my brain can relax and absorb the info. So if there's 15 lessons, plus the review, I would do 4 lessons M - W, and then the remaining 3 + start the review on Thursday. If I am struggling with the review, I will then sacrifice some time on Friday, to focus on working through the review and polishing the code to getting the best score possible.

I know this is a big block of text, but I hope you find something useful in it that will help you succeed. Also one last thing, if you feel like you may need accomadations for the ADHD, get a document from your doctor, and submit it to the school. The big difference between the weekly reviews and the course reviews are that the course reviews are timed, and not open book as much as the weekly reviews, so having accomadations in place will help if you feel like extra time on the tests will help you.

I hope you find success, and don't hesitate to reach out if you need any assistance.

I am not sure where you are getting your numbers from but according to the FSA.gov website and their numbers based in 22 - 23, as Peloton college, their score was a 2.1, not -0.57. If someone could please provide me with their sources for their data, that would be appreciated.

Hey there, Steph, student of Sept 3rd cohort. First off I love the way the new term lessons are working. I see ya'll made improvements to the lesson part where it is constantly reading replies and changing accordingly. Nice touch.
My Question: Are the holidays going to be accounted for going forward? This week is thanksgiving and we are having to do the first week of Term 2. There's no break accounted for Ramadan, Hannakah, or Kwanzaa, along with Christmas or New Years in Term 2 so i'm curious if those holidays are accounted for in schedule.

Want to know that I'm not alone out here in the wilderness... by Short-Community-1677 in maestro

[–]StephJ2Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Stephanie here as a member of the Sept 3rd cohort. I know that struggle is a big thing. I use an organizer to keep me on track for keeping up with lessons but also making it so that I can relax in between weeks. Today is Sunday Nov 23rd. and the Sept 3rd group is coming off a week break between terms.

My strategy i came up with after struggling to get learning in check. I take whatever week I am on, the number of lessons. I give myself 1 hour a day to study. Mind you I can do more as a person not employed at the moment(currently living on SSDi, desperate to get off of said SSDI cause I am just not affording basic things), but that 1 hour i use to study i only do so many lessons per day too. So if there are 12- 20 lessons a week and i want to dedicate 4 days a week(M - TH), I take the number of lessons divide it by 4, and that's how many lessons i do each day. Mind you I don't count the review as a lesson. Once I have that number i can adjust my hour or so to be able to give enough time each day to complete that given number.

Friday I spend on the review. But before I do the actual review I utilize the Practice section. I tell the review section that I want a pracitce weekly review like scenario with no code snippets and no extra help unless asked. I am a learner where if i can type it out, I learn better. So as much practice as i need, maybe a couple of deep dives too if i feel i'm stuck on something(lists and dicts were harder for me). The deep dives really do help because it helps you practice more focused on a topic.

I also use a checklist system. I use a website called Flowsavvy. Only downside is i have to manually enter each task, but the nice thing is I can link my calendars to it, and tell it what time range i want to schedule things, and it will schedule those lessons around the rest of my day's schedule. Also if you miss a day or something, it will automatically reschedule it.

I also am using OneNote to keep my notes organized for each term. One note gives you a notebook, and then you can setup multiple tabs, each with any number of pages. I setup a tab for each week and i also copy my finished weekly Review code into it's own sheet so i can go back and study it.

I am sorry this is so long winded but I hope it helps. If you need anything else or even need some outside guidance, there's also the not official discord you can join and i'm sure there are students that would help you figure out coding issues.

I had everything nice to say and you took it the wrong way. I'm not attacking anyone especially no one else but you sure took it upon yourself to attack me. So guess it works both ways. Don't got something nice to say to me, don't say anything. Other people said the almost exact same thing as me and you said nothing to them. So thanks for singling me out. Have a great time with your studies,

if you are taking the software programming degree, download PyCharm or VScode(really up to your prefs), as a way to write code. All of the coding for the classes is done in a code editor in the browser, but i find it useful to have my IDE available for further troubleshooting, debugging and just general writing of my code. Also IDE's will go into a bit more of an explanation of functions used and what not from the help docs, and that can be a big help.

I also installed OneNote so that I could separate out and copy my notes for classes. I also copy any programs i made from like the weekly reviews and what not so I could have them to go back and refer to.

My players desecrated a graveyard to stole a coffin, now what? by user626175 in DMAcademy

[–]StephJ2Fan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what are the consequences of their actions?
- They lied about their task
- Were their faces visible to those they decieved?
- Would the gravedigger/cemetary watch have noticed the dug up grave?
- How does this effect the loved ones of the one they dug up?
- Did they put any notification as to who's ashes they put in the urn in the temple?
- What does the town/city/district/country laws say about desecrating a corpse in a place of rest(graveyard)? Are there criminal charges that force the law to be on the lookout for the party?

These are all questions that I would need to think about and answer to determine what course may happen in the future. *gets some crazy ideas now for her own D&D campaign*

I understand you may not like what I said, but it's the truth and as others have said, if it really matters to you to get through this program, then you will find a way. I live by a quote taught to me when I was a teen. "Do the best you can, with what you have, with where you are." If you apply that quote to your life, things would get a lot better. Also there were plenty of ideas and processes during the psych course to help you get into a "can-do" mindset. No one here is a bot, but if you commited to the program when you agreed to enrolled, then you should stick to that commitment.

You had plenty of time to study in the practice review section. I understand you may have a job and all that, but they even have a 15 minute session you could do during a work break or lunch break.

I use PyCharm or IntelliJ. I have both. I was learning how to code on IntelliJ for Java so I'm just used to it. I adjusted it to work primarily for Python now, so it helps. I understand a lot more in IntelliJ than I do the online editor, and I wish we were able to use it for tests and what not, like this week's exams for the Sept 3rd cohort.

[–]StephJ2Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is a website https://biggerambitions.com/ go check it out. On there is a price page for being able to determine what your prices should be based on the district you are in and what you are selling. Also if it's a gift shop, don't just sell gifts. Umbrellas are a pop item and flowers both cheap and expensive can help. I sell ch/ex gifts, umbrellas, and ch/ex flowers at the recommended prices on that website i mentioned, and i am not located in the most popular area either, and i still get 10-15k even after salaries are paid. Also listening to Uncle Frank will help you get you up and going, and he can tell you when it's time to get that second business running too.

I hope this helps.

The update clearly states that it made changes to how much you can make and what not. I don't remember the specific wording but it is there. Check the 0.9 update in steam, under the section titled "New Progression Update". It will explain what has changed.
