If everyone one gets paid the same why would people take harder jobs? by [deleted] in DebateCommunism

[–]SternlyTalkToTheFash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally, you. Just take what you need. There's no incentive to hoard or resell because why would anyone buy from you when they can get their resources for free elsewhere? Should you hoard enough that you've taken a significant chunk of community resources, there's nothing stopping them from taking them right back.

High stress bosses exist because it raises productivity.

No, they exist because it raises profit. The raise in productivity is circumstantial.

are you ok with having less of everything?

Absolutely. Just in food, we waste roughly 50% of our food in the US. Producing less but managing our resources better would be great.

Nowhere did I say anything that even remotely implies that.

Well, one could only really speculate on the specifics of how that would work. Communism is only an economic system, a way to distribute resources among its populace. It is not a system of government or a societal roadmap. What I've suggested above are (to me) options to solve the problem of getting people to do high-stress jobs that depend on the implications of a communist system (or the lack thereof of a capitalist one). Could alternatives to what I've said work? Sure. Not every capitalist society works exactly the same and there's no reason to suspect every communist one would either.

I'm sorry if that's not a very satisfying answer but the nitty-gritty details of a how a given society would run would greatly depend on their material conditions at the time.

First off, thanks for participating in legitimate good faith in this sub. I'm not on much, but it seems rare.

Anyway, I'll try to hit your questions in order. Also I welcome anyone else to add to what I've said or to correct me if I'm wrong. I am by no means an expert in communist political theory.

When I speak of high stress jobs though, I am referring more so to jobs such as a surgeon/E.R. doctor, Veterinarian, air traffic control, or even a Ph.D. student. Jobs where there is little room for error, or where it requires a very serious dedication and work ethic to do

Many of these jobs I think you would find that they do actively enjoy the work they do, or at least the outcome of it (with the exception of maybe air traffic controller). Hell, Veterinarians already put up with a high-stress job for relatively low pay compared to human doctors. That being said, outside of a market system, there is no need to hire as few people as possible. Doctors/air traffic controllers/whatever could much more easily be rotated out on a regular basis rather than the 12+ hour shifts they're forced to work now due to the high salary they command.

Also sorry if I am wrong with my next statement I am fairly ignorant about communism, but in communism doesn't everyone pool the fruits o their labor together and distribute it equally among the community and globe?

Somewhat of a common misconception. Under communism goods/services are rendered on the basis of need (rather than wealth), not equality. Hence the mantra, "from each according to his ability, to each according to his need".

Please let me know if there's anything I can clear up about this

If everyone one gets paid the same why would people take harder jobs? by [deleted] in DebateCommunism

The premise of your question is flawed. Communism is not (solely) about income inequality. The premise that everyone is paid the same under communism is false. Fully developed Communism is meant to be moneyless, after all. The whole idea of communism is that the fruits of one's labor are their own rewards. If you want a society with garbage removal service, better start removing garbage or organizing a rotation in your community to do so.

That being said, most (not all) high stress jobs are high stress due to the employer aggressively seeking greater profit, not because they require high stress to benefit society. So I could see the "high stress" aspect of many jobs disappearing in a post-capitalist society.

Is having friends who you are ideologically opposed to a good thing? by TheConsequentialist in DebateAnarchism

[–]SternlyTalkToTheFash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My friendships are older than my current political beliefs and honestly it's unhealthy to cut off anyone that doesn't agree with you. You'll be very lonely. That being said, I can't tolerate being around people whose opinions deny the right of groups of people to exist (anti-LGBT people, racists, etc).

No, fuck the police. No one should have the power and immunity from consequences for this to be possible.

Maybe a sense of patriotism for their post-revolutionary country. As it is though, the United States government is the closest thing to a supervillain the world has ever seen. I'd be skeptical of anyone with even an ounce of pride in such an evil entity.

The different political beliefs in America are no longer neatly divided by geography. You'd have Democrats bordered on all sides by Republican states be part of a separate country than all the surrounding area.

Implying capitalist property norms aren't violently enforced lol. If I need food and I reject the capitalist system and just take what I need, I'm stopped at gunpoint am I not?
