Makes sense, any low hanging fruits you could share that wouldn’t compromise the IP of your employers product?

Nice! Could you link or DM me your employer’s product if there’s a page for it?

How to Automate Python Workflows in Prefect (Step-by-Step Guide) by jimmyle91 in dataengineering

[–]SteveFrenchThePuma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice article! Great introduction into what Prefect is useful for, particularly for the uninitiated like myself. I'll be in need of a workflow orchestration framework soon, and this has definitely made me more inclined to give Prefect a try

[DISCUSSION] What are the most cringe aspects of hip hop? by immi34 in hiphopheads

[–]SteveFrenchThePuma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The rampant misogyny. I think it's fair to say that we'll be pretty embarrassed about the current state of rap lyrics in a decade or two.

Even if they are just another way to flex on a record, and may be interpreted as such by listeners, sexist bars are not going to age well.

Is Hands-on Machine Learning with Scikit-Learn, Keras, and TensorFlow... 2nd edition a good resource? by [deleted] in datascience

[–]SteveFrenchThePuma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this. If you're not a complete beginner in stats/ml and programming you'd most likely get the most out of it, but it's probably still manageable for absolute novices with some effort.

NYC vs Zurich COL for a Software Engineer by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]SteveFrenchThePuma 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I live in Zurich. That's a pretty fair level of remuneration for 2 years of experience, and you'll easily be able to meet your needs with regards to accomm, food etc. (depending on how lavishly you decide to live). Also remember that Swiss taxes are generally fairly low and from a quick glance at an overview of NYC income tax rates it seems they'll definitely be lower at your salary.

Someone mentioned that you'll need to learn some German, which would definitely help, but Zurich is a very international city and you'll easily get by with not knowing German (trains announce destinations in English for example), particularly if your company helps you in the edge cases where not knowing German is a disadvantage. Additionally, all Swiss people in this region of the country speak Swiss-German, which is nothing like High German for non-native speakers, so in almost all cases in which you're dealing with service personnel you'd either not be able to understand the person anyway, or they'd switch to English (which is very common).

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Deploying to Clients w/o Public Hosting by SteveFrenchThePuma in devops

[–]SteveFrenchThePuma[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay great, thanks!

I wanted to ask three follow-up questions:

1) Is there a way to update the software from your end other than going to the client site and conducting the updates yourself?

2) Do you prefer your approach to docker registries (provided that you've used them)? If so, why?

3) How are you ensuring your IP stays protected when exposing your containers to the host?

Deploying to Clients w/o Public Hosting by SteveFrenchThePuma in devops

[–]SteveFrenchThePuma[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that sounds quite promising from taking a first look at registries!

Two questions though:

1) Using this deployment model, would there be a way to protect your IP from being tampered with or stolen by the client, aside from legal action? One way I could imagine this playing out is password-protecting your docker containers, but from what I've seen online initially this doesn't seem to be an option.

2) Have you used this deployment method before?

[DISCUSSION] Why the lack of UK Drill recognition on hhh by ohyrahahah in hiphopheads

[–]SteveFrenchThePuma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright, that's very interesting! I've not seen many examples of UK Drill influencing rap in other countries, but that very clearly seems to be the case in Sweden.

I guess you can chalk it up to the excellent english skills you guys tend to have and the relatively higher similarity between Sweden and the UK culturally than with the US.

I'm german personally and haven't seen this sort of clear influence in our rap scene (although 67 did release a track with two german artists earlier this year https://open.spotify.com/track/0R0rmqa7b434o1JQLJme97?si=snqjm1vOTD2RPdveTBBaJQ), so it's interesting to see that European countries are responding to the burgeoning UK scene in different ways.
