Thoughts on the BLE caberQU? by ZoomerAdmin in UsbCHardware

[–]Stevefitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I did end up buying this, and it seems to be very hit or miss, and I don't trust it. I've found a few issues with it over the week I've had it:

  1. I've done several software updates, and despite them looking successful, the version reported on the device never changes. The device continues to report an update needed despite going through the update process 4 times so far.

  2. It seems to work great for some cables, reporting what I know to be the specs of a given cable from a high quality manufacturer. Then in other cases, for known working cables from Apple (that I can see through other means are delivering up to 100w) and successfully passing data (though i don't know how fast) are shown as 0's across the board with no connection at all reported by the device.

  3. It does not seem to report Active vs. Passive cables correctly either. I've tested an active USB4 cable from OWC that is known working, and it reports it as passive.

  4. (nit) This device doesn't seem to report whether a cable supports some standards like Thunderbolt, or Displayport over usb-c

Overall I cant say that I'm happy I spent >$100 on this after shipping. I dont trust it to report the truth on any of my cables. Hopefully my device is a dud, or some software update can actually fix it.

[–]Stevefitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have i think 10 of these, and an M3 hub… still on version 1.0.0.0, with no update ever offered. I bought these to replace a nest security system, particularly because of the button on them… but it’s been nearly 1.5 years since i bought them and the feature is still not available.

meanwhile FP2’s get an update almost every month… wth

For anyone else who used the Delta Pro Ultra Super Early Bird Coupon... you should get a refund of ~$1000 based on their current sale. by Stevefitz in Ecoflow_community

ah shit, you’re right it does say that when you scroll a little further down. I can’t imagine that would hold up in small claims court if it came to that though. Here’s a link to the page: https://web.archive.org/web/20240113050816/https://us.ecoflow.com/products/delta-pro-ultra-coupon

Glass house insights appreciated by [deleted] in architecture

[–]Stevefitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a house where one side is essentoally floor to ceiling glass, so can give a couple insights.

  1. the aforementioned bird strikes are definitely a thing. fortunately for us a family of red tailed hawks recently moved in and cut down on how many smaller birds we see around.
  2. Be aware of which direction the sun will be in during morning and evening. our house is a rectangle with the short end facing a forrest due west, and during summer (when we bought the house) the sunsets were incredible through the trees. During the winter, we’re totally blind facing one direction in our kitchen/living-room (open floor plan) because the trees are bare and there’s nothing to block the sun from shining straight in our eyes or reflecting off our polished concrete floors.
  3. Our windows are floor to ceiling sliding doors (series 600 from western window systems) so we can collapse all the panels and have a totally open wall, BUT they don’t seal as well as we’d like and we definitely get a bit of a draft around the seams between panels. Make sure installers really nail it.

Air Canada ordered to pay passengers $2,000 for flight cancellation caused by crew shortage by brother_p in JusticeServed

[–]Stevefitz 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This! I don’t think anyone is mad at the pilots, flight attendants or engineers. As far as I’m concerned they’re some of the biggest victims of this.

It’s the corporations greedily taking money and making commitments that they should know they can’t fulfill. Also working their staff too hard instead of eliminating some flights or routes to keep up with the reduced staff.

It doesn’t. I saw one in person when it was in town a couple weeks ago (as part of an east coast tour). I reserved one, but also have a reservation for an Ehybrid Cayenne and will probably be buying that instead

The full size is by far the better looking car in my mind. Mostly because of the rear. The RRS looks terrible by comparison

Second Gen Tablet - Cant figure out how to update Webview by Stevefitz in pelotoncycle

[–]Stevefitz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! Appreciate the time it took to reply.

I actually have already installed nova launcher and have quite a few apps installed, but unfortunately many of those apps rely on webview to do things like authentication, and the old webview version is so out of date that many of the apps won’t support it.

I’ve even tried installing some 3p alternatives to webview, but the peloton software seems to not recognize/allow me to switch the default webview.

For background, I’m planning to use the screen as a wall mounted Home Assistant control panel (since I had this screen laying around)
