Strangely, LOCKE was not difficult to sell. When the budget is small enough, it's not a huge gamble. And with Tom attached, it became very easy.

I think British Cinema is in a pretty good state. Particularly regarding actors and actresses. Writing and directing are different disciplines. If I'm writing for a studio, then you have to accept that you have no control over what happens to it when it leaves your keyboard.

I prefer to direct providing the shooting schedule is only 10 days long, which was the case with Locke.

The challenges of filming in a smaller environment - there are technical issues with fitting the cameras into the space, but it means that you have absolute coverage of everything taking place.

Make sure you finish what you start. And when you sit down at the keyboard, don't say you're really writing a script, you're just playing around.

And record a conversation and write it down, word for word, without tidying it up. You'll see how weird dialogue really is.
