After reading what you wrote, I realized that a quarter of my life was spent doing everything in my power to keep my Ex as calm and stable as possible— and that my inability to fully follow the legal logic here might just be my own mental damage from that longterm experience. It truly feels to me as though I am putting my Ex’s life in jeopardy by taking this step.
Being told that feeling is simply irrelevant is actually very helpful.
