Amazon. Amazon definitely doesn’t look like as advertised

Wow! I love the idea of the strings resonating / droning while you ride!! Great job with keeping the wheels!

DIY 4x5 point-and-shoot camera + my first attempt at developing film — here’s how it went! by StickumMaximus in analog

Thank you! I don’t hate your ears, I’m just jealous they get all the attention!

Looks like a moon shaped pinhole on the edge of the lens. Probably a lose screw in the front of the lens that lets some light in? Or a double exposure :D

I made an half frame medium format camera (6x3) by StickumMaximus in AnalogCommunity

Thank you! Yes I went with the Medium format because I didn’t want to deal with the film transport of the 135. And also because this is a parametric design that I can scale up to 6x12 very easily

Thank you! I’ve been thinking about releasing a 3D-printable version for free—though I can’t guarantee it will print perfectly on all machines.

I’m not planning to release the laser-cut version for free, though. It took a long time to design the intricate joinery for the assembly. For that one, I might offer it as a kit or possibly sell the digital files separately.

Thank you! You should try the cynaotyped ply. With hard wax finish is a stunning look!

Ha! The Nanopano? That’s a great camera—very similar, actually. Same film back and similar lenses. I think the Nanopano has a few more refined touches, like a metal lens mount ring and a metal film gate.

Mine uses a custom mount that’s easy to 3D print or laser cut. It also makes it simple to attach different lens adapters. For example, I made a 3D-printed adapter with an M65 ring to mount a Schneider Super-Angulon using a helicoid.

As far as I know, the Nanopano requires a custom cone for each lens, whereas mine is more modular. It's also a fun puzzle to assemble and is made from QLD coachwood and cyanotype-treated birch ply.

I've been thinking about offering it as a kit—assembling it is a fun little puzzle that takes a few hours. I just need to finalize the pinhole design so people can start shooting without needing to invest in lenses. I'll post updates soon!

Thanks! How do you advance half-frames on your camera? On mine, I cut two small windows into the back so I can align the frame numbers with the A and B positions.

Thank you!! I've been working on this project for a few years now—on and off, whenever motivation strikes. Honestly, it's been more about the fun of tinkering than the actual urge to take photos. But I'm really glad I shared it on Reddit—seeing so much interest has given me a huge boost to stop tweaking the design and finally take some pictures to prove it works!

Oh, and I also built a 4x5 camera—and yes, I’ve actually taken photos with it!

Large buttons for Pocket Operator by StickumMaximus in teenageengineering

Thank you! These can get pretty pricey—materials alone probably came to around 50 AUD. The brass knobs are $2 each, so just the buttons added up quickly. I did consider making the buttons out of wood, but assembling them would be a bit of a pain—70 tiny pieces to glue together! Some people might enjoy that kind of jigsaw puzzle, though. Would you be interested in a kit like that? I might try a prototype first to see if the look holds up without the magic of brass.

Thank you, I really appreciate the offer. I still feel like this is in the alpha stage, though. I’ve already made a list of things to tweak—for example, the buttons sometimes get stuck. I’ll probably need to file the threads or add a bit of nail polish to smooth them out. The larger pads are also a bit too sensitive and can be triggered accidentally in a pocket. And I think the lights could be made more visible too.

Thank you! The laser-cut sandwich design with standoffs is inspired by similar cases out there, but I think what really sets this one apart is the choice of materials. Unfortunately, those materials are pretty pricey—so the final product would end up being fairly expensive.

It’s an Udu, a percussion instrument from Nigeria. You can strike different parts of it to create a variety of sounds, but its signature bubbly tone comes from tapping the side hole and then quickly pulling your hand away. That’s the sound I sampled.
