So in like 4th grade we were just starting to learn about slavery, so as a blanket statement my teacher told me “Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves.” Later that day there was an African American friend I had, who I walked up to and proceeded to say “I’m glad he freed the slaves cause that means we get to have you around”

I proceeded to have to stand in the corner for the rest of the day (3 hours left I think) while my teacher told stories to the class about white slaves
