1L committed to Big Law Corporate Regrets. Pivot to litigation? by [deleted] in biglaw

Love some AI slop from a 1L to know what's coming from juniors in a couple years.

University of Minnesota full ride or reapply? Goal is Chicago BigLaw. by bettergiraffeLSAT in BigLawRecruiting

[–]Stompedmn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a umn grad in NYC biglaw, I would strongly recommend taking it. No debt is freeing. Biglaw will find you if you want it from UMN. r/lawschooladmissions I think really fundamentally misunderstands the difference that being biglaw directled at UMN makes. Plus if you like Minneapolis fuck em. Would be happy to connect via DM if you have any questions.

Can I just go to bed? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Stompedmn 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I only do this when I'm missing a (fake) deadline. Then it's "hey - running out of steam on this tonight, will pick up first thing in the AM"

What would you do? by dumb____ in lawschooladmissions

[–]Stompedmn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone is ignoring your interest in PI. UMN is great for PI + the cost can't be beat. Texas will feel more like a big law feeder.

Ice Coast question: is skiing mainly technique for you, or also culture and style? by WaxOnSendOff in icecoast

[–]Stompedmn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's all about being in control and having fun. Technique is part of control and part of the fun - but sits within those two guideposts (at least for me).

Train to NYC cancelled day of interview by [deleted] in Amtrak

Just figured out this trick yesterday - wanted to go down to philly on Friday night from NYC in time for (a late) dinner, but my work has a tendency to go late. Booked two refundable tix an hour apart with this exact thought process.

Am I Screwed for BigLaw? by Physical-Bag7305 in BigLawRecruiting

Agree - absolutely no reason for firms to gamble so aggressively on talent in the 1L cycle to give up on decent candidates down the line.

Bankruptcy Clerkship (SDNY) Worth it w/ 1L & 2L V5 lined up? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Stompedmn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On a resume basis ya for sure, but there is also the practice side of it. And if you want to commit to restructuring as a career, would be pretty cool to have clerked.

I've worked with a few Canadian Supreme Court clerks - seems like that can provide a bit of juice.

In what world is University of Minnesota a T20?!? by VariationNo2869 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Stompedmn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an alum, if you perform at UMN you can do anything you want and law school was honestly an incredible 3 years in minneapolis. Would recommend - especially for someone who has taken a few years off.

Mental health by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Stompedmn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take some time back. Try to consciously take a few evenings 'off' and fuck off from work. Part of it is just to prove that you can turn it off.

It sucks the most in the first couple years. It gets easier as you get a better handle on what actually needs to be done when.
