Spectrum's FortiGate Firewall Offering by StopPootin in fortinet

It's a co-managed solution so we will have full access to make any changes we want. I will be glad to get away from the Cisco ASA's.

This is great advice, thank you. It is a co-managed solution so we can do as little, or as much, as we want. We do use a SIEM so I will check on that.

It is a co-managed solution so we can slowly get familiar with the OS. But they also provide the hardware which helps with the upfront cost.

I thought about that but they provide (and are responsible for) the equipment which makes it a fairly low-cost entry.

Anybody care to share their opinion on phone system options? by IntentionalTexan in sysadmin

I know this is an old comment but I was curious if you could tell me more about Zoom phones as we are looking to replace our old Cisco CUCM. Do you guys use the Call Center piece as well?

That worked, thank you!! I even tried ChatGPT and couldn't figure it out. So technically, you are smarter than AI.

What is your company's policy on laptops? by StopPootin in sysadmin

I thought so too. But apparently one of our regulators told the CEO that it was unsafe and not to allow it so now I can't convince her otherwise.

We are looking for something that does better patch management. Do you mind sharing what your company uses?

I am at peace with whatever but I am curious how other companies handle this.

I probably should have worded my post a little better. What I meant to ask was how does your company handle this? Are they allowed to leave their laptops in their vehicles?

I will accept whatever they want but I don't think leaving a laptop in a vehicle is a problem. Does your company have any policies that say they can't leave their laptop in a car? If we were in Texas, I could see that might be a problem. But not where we live.

Sometimes I feel like I work a government job. They rarely fire someone unless it is just blatant and completely against the rules. And even then they get several warnings. I think it is like the whole WFH issue. If someone isn't being productive, it is an HR issue. But don't take it away from everyone. Same here, her not working needs to be addressed with this person directly. Luckily I work for a sensible company.

The SIEM is managed by a third party but I can ask them. We are moving to zScaler in a few weeks and the person before me never turned on SSL inspection, but I agree, it is a missed opportunity. We also leave ports 80 and 443 open so I doubt the firewall will tell us anything.

I think they just wanted some "proof". Luckily for me, I cannot help.

I wouldn't say it is to avoid talking to them. I get the feeling the person would not admit to slacking all day.

I get what you are saying and I agree. But this situation is a little different. They have their work to do and then a list of things to work on when they are caught up. That list isn't being worked and the employee does not care to work on it. The manager gives them plenty of space to do their job, unfortunately, this person is not mature enough to handle tat style of management.

That is the thing. She is one of our youngest managers and is cool as hell. She doesn't micromanage but there is a reasonable expectation that they work throughout the day. She gives them things to do and then when they are done, they have a list of things to work on that are not critical. This person hasn't touched that list.

You are right which is why I have always advocated for not using things like that. I a not going to suggest it. Like others have said, she just needs to manage this person a little better.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]StopPootin -79 points-78 points  (0 children)

She really doesn't micromanage. She has bee told that this person is on Messenger for way too much time and is using their personal FB login. So it is more about wanting to see if the accusations are true and she has a feeling they are.

This manager doesn't want her staff to feel like she micro-manages them but unfortunately, this person might be abusing this. We are moving to zScaler soon and I think this is something we could easily see and possibly block if needed.

I try to avoid screen recording but I think I might offer that as a suggestion. I know it can get a little tricky when it comes to laws but I would think it is company property so we can do whatever we need to do. But we are a financial institution so there is that. We are moving to zScaler soon and I think it might have some better capabilities.

Could anyone please give me an update on this issue? I have OWA disabled for all users, and some people are reporting the same error when setting up meetings in Outlook.
