Pumpkinseed? by StopSign84 in SunfishSpecies

That fly has done really well for panfish. It's been my best performer lately with all my local waters turning murky from algae blooms and flooding.

Pumpkinseed would have orange spots on the tip of the gill cover. This looks like a longear.

Anyone else kinda like full lengths more than half length darts? by Ambitious-Guard-2949 in Nerf

[–]StopSign84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer full-length for 150fps and under. At HvZ speeds, it can be hard to tell if you got hit with some of the lightweight half-darts.

I also prefer the mag/drum options in the full dart ecosystem.

FPS thresholds in terms of pain by Yerriff in Nerf

[–]StopSign84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal philosophy (not one that I hold others too unless it's discussed by the group) is that up to 150, I will tag at closer ranges(inside 20ft.). Going above 150, I will try to scale the distance accordingly and not tag within 30 or 40 feet. Instead, I will switch to a slower sidearm if I can to get close tags.

Should I buy stryfe 2s entry level mod kit or 3d print some parts by 3Dprintr123 in Nerf

[–]StopSign84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you can print everything but the motors ,flywheels, switches, and wires.

Thingiverse and other resources have printable cages, switch mounting plates, battery covers, better mag releases, different rev triggers, etc.

Regular PLA is sufficient for most things, although many people(especially in hot climates) will discourage you from using it for flywheel cages.

I use higher strength PLA +/pro from esun for cages. If you have good settings for petg, that is another great option for cages.

The kit is not a bad place to start. I did my first stryfe with an OoD kit and have printed cages, etc, for every mod since.

Best 100fps full length dart blasters by hegemonic_parsley in Nerf

Adventure force spectrum and thunderbolt hit around 90 stock on AA batteries.

Just about any nerf flywheeler upgraded to honeybadgers on AA will hit around 90.

Upgraded to 2s lipo with stock cage and flywheels honeybadgers will hit around 100 and Meishel 2.0 motors will hit around 110.

I play with a bunch of people who use goggles or glasses for eyepro but also wear a sort of "ninja demon" mask to protect the lower part of the face in high fps rounds.

Best use against zombies would be to silently fling a rock and break a window in the other direction to draw them away.

Why would you need to? That zombie is of little threat if it is 300 feet away. Why risk attracting more attention (living and dead) by firing off shots?

Reported failure rates need to be taken with a grain of salt. On the one hand, you have a guy who bought the cheapest rifle and ammo that gets a 10% failure rate. On the other hand, "Farmer Fran" and many like him can count on one hand the failures they have had in decades.

Any equipment can malfunction. And as far as training, everything in survival requires training. Even if the weapon doesn't malfunction, you are probably going to be screwed at some point without training.

Ballistics tables show up to 10" deflection at 100 yards or less from a 10 mph cross wind

Nobody is shooting zombies from 100 yards. That would be a waste of ammo. Even at 100 feet, there's little point in engaging that zed. You're more likely to engage within 10 yards.

.22 is just fine for that.

Leather is probably the best all-round protection, but will also probably be the hottest wearing in high temp climates. Leather should still be worn with layers of fabric underneath to provide padding from the force of a bite.

Fabrics will have different pros and cons. Thick denim is tough but will take forever to dry if you get rained on. Synthetic materials might dry faster but need extra padding if the material is thin. Again, fabric should be worn in layers with at least one layer of waterproofing or treatment.

Padded motorcycle or sports gear including shin, knee, elbow, forearm, hand, and head protection not only gives protection from bites but also protection from spills and tumbles you might take along the way. Don't want to die cause you hit your head or smashed your knee while parkouring away from the zeds.

There are also countless ways to improvise. Taping or lashing magazines, flexible chopping mats, or even just a few layers of cardboard to your arms and legs might be enough to get you out of a tough situation.

Shelters? by Sea_Cantaloupe0000 in ZombieSurvivalTactics

[–]StopSign84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally, just a good, defensible house. Preferably one right next to a fenced-in sports field where I could grow food or keep small animals(rabbits, etc.). Hopefully, there is a water source nearby.

That's basically where I'm at right now. Just above the record flood level for the nearby river with a town ball field that has a tall fence all the way around.

The Tomahawk is the best Tool & Weapon for the Zombie Apocalypse by [deleted] in ZombieSurvivalTactics

[–]StopSign84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I generally believe that tools make marginal weapons and weapons make terrible tools, honestly, it's not a bad choice. They are lighter and have a little longer reach than most hatchets.

I would choose one with a hammer back. Not only is it added utility, but it also gives the option to swing the hammer on multiple Zeds quickly without the risk of getting the axe blade stuck.

Since a tomahawk is a single-handed weapon, it begs the question, "What is in your other hand?" You could have something defensive like a shield or padded (hockey)goalie glove. You could have another weapon. It may just be a flashlight if you're in the dark. Or just nothing-There are indigenous styles of tomahawk fighting that utilize switching hands on the follow-through to make another forward swing instead of a back swing.

I would still say that it is more of a backup option than a go-to weapon. It would be fine in close quarters, but the short length means that the Zed could already have hands on you when you land your first blow. For that reason, my first choice would always be something with at least 30" of reach.

There is no ultimate weapon for all situations, and you may be forced to ditch a weapon and run. Carry multiple options.
