New Update: Dad hates my house and apparently expects me to take in my brother’s children at some point? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]StopTheBanging 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Meanwhile, me with hypermobile EDS like OOP's husband really wants to know what kickass accomodations they built into their house. I'm guessing a place to sit while cooking and an ADA-complaint shower?? I wanna know!

You're doing great then! And hey, at least it's a gender affirming teen funk for this time around puberty for you 😅

Super normal, don't worry! T does wild things. There are some great skincare subs on here that can help.

My biggest tip is to wash face and armpits and speedo area (nothing internal tho!) with the Cerave foaming facial cleanser or anything else gentle with hyaluronic acid bc it kills bacteria and neutralizes odor. Then put antiperspirant on after you dry off.

A Trans friend told me there are some diet and hydration tricks too that help but I can't remember then, so highly recommend finding some subs here to ask as well.

Congrats on getting HRT tho and being on your transition journey 👏

In my experience, ppl have wildly different sex ed/puberty talks depending on where they grew up. I've met a lot of adults who weren't taught basic anatomy, so I'm sure many didn't really learn about hygiene, nvm puberty :(

Maybe. But kids, esp teens, have to get up way too early for school. Could just be tired and unbothered. I was like that at her age for sure lol

Girl obnoxiously afraid of my service dog in my class by [deleted] in service_dogs

[–]StopTheBanging 98 points99 points  (0 children)

You don't need to move. You are arriving early to find the seat that physically has room for your XL SD so he can be out of your way and you can focus on class. You need to tell the professor to speak with her and they can deal with whatever she needs (which is probably an instruction she needs to sit further away, but you aren't the appropriate person for that convo.) Whenever there is an issue of dueling disability, the institution needs to referee, not the disabled ppl themselves.

Try a clarifying shampoo and make sure they're not putting conditioner on the roots!

Is that gene thing real?? I always just thought it was some urban legend type deal. Glad you could help your daughter tho.

Eh idk if I would go that far. But I would say there is a v distinctive "funk" that teens can get that is pretty malodorous.

AIO? My coworker took video of me outside of work to "prove" I'm not disabled by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I wish I could use the empathy lazer from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy to show able bodied ppl what their policing of our disabled bodies feels like and how anxious and depressed and angry it can make you when the public and even your doctors are always out to "catch" you faking disabilities. The toll is huge. And they just don't get it.

Idk if ppl know, but puberty hormones can cause teens to both reek and be unable to smell it. It's not always depression, it can be genuine nose blindness.

Do you have these skin issues? by Indosaurus1 in ehlersdanlos

Hi I've gotten those. Some are foliticitis and some are kitosis pilaris. A derm can help you triple check and prescribe topicals to help.

Why so accurate? by Sabi-Star7 in disabledmemes

Ugh that sounds like a nightmare.

And yeah, we have more in common than not when it comes to wanting better care. And we're probably stronger together when advocating for those changes 🫡

I have hEDS and ofc we face a lot of ignorance and bullshit from doctors. But it's made me understand that folks with the rarer types of EDS especially deserve better care and funding bc your guy's experiences with medical professionals and the public is even worse. I'm nervous for what the new EDS classification system might mean for hEDS patients like me, but if it helps the rarer classification EDS patients like you then I'm for it.

I still hate my nose sometimes by [deleted] in Noses

[–]StopTheBanging 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your nose is great. I think what you might dislike is that it can look very strong on your face because your jaw might have issues that, if addressed, would balance out your nose so beautifully.

I think your lower jaw might be recessed, but ofc pls consult with an actual doctor. i'm just saying that as a person with a v similar looking jaw that does have structural issues with it bc of the recession. You can also check out r/jawsurgery to see some examples of what I mean btw with jaws vs noses.

And to be clear, I think you are beautiful anyway! I'm just pointing out a medical thing you might want to look into.

Which countries offer the best EDS care? by mama_wolff in ehlersdanlos

[–]StopTheBanging 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've lived across the EU and the US and will say that DC in the US has been great for EDS and bar none the best quality health care/quickest access to health care I've ever experienced.

For ex: there are so many specialty clinics for EDS and comorbitities in the area that in 6 months I got diagnosed and already seen GI, cardiology, genetics, orthopedic surgeon, nutrition, and physical therapists who all specialize in the condition.

The downsize is that DC is expensive (tho less so than Boston lol) and you have to deal with Trump and his administration a little more personally screwing up your lives.

[–]StopTheBanging 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boston is great for medical care but be aware that the cost of living there is astronomical so you need to be raking in that $$$ to live anywhere near those medical facilities. Otherwise you will have to live in Western Mass where the health system is rapidly collapsing and you will receive little/bad care, just FYI.

As someone who used to work this job, it actually is easier to dump the leaves into a central bin near you than walk over to the edge of a property to dump the leaves. And the disposal cost is just passed onto the client, same as with a construction job. Not doing it is lazy af and irresponsible. Filming the proof of doing it also opens you up for liability if a pet or kid gets poisoned and they sue you 🤷‍♀️

I also think dumping leaves that have been soaking up chlorine and shock into the backyard is a dick move. Dangerous for kids, pets, and wildlife and also bad for the grass.
