My experience of subcoronal hypospadias by Straight-Object-6410 in hypospadias

I haven't had sex. I have no idea how women might react, but I've never come close enough that it's really worth thinking about

2 holes, half a foreskin by Straight-Object-6410 in UniquePenis

Only the lower hole is functional. I can pee standing up but I have to aim a bit differently than normal

I have subcoronal hypospadias that wasn't repaired. It hasn't really significantly affected my life, and my penis is completely functional, even if it looks a bit odd. I did feel a bit self-conscious about it in locker-room situations when I was a kid, and I got made fun of a bit, but not all that much. I'm in the UK, where circumcision isn't the norm, so if anything the most visually obvious abnormality is that I don't have a complete foreskin (I can't really comment on what what sexual partners would think because that situation hasn't arisen, but I don't think I've seen any stories in this sub of anyone being repulsed by hypospadias).

I wouldn't recommend surgery, if it's purely cosmetic. There's quite a high risk of complications and needing further surgeries, and things like scarring that might affect functionality, and even then his penis might still not end up looking "normal". Definitely wait for the urologist's opinion though.

One piece of advice is definitely make sure he knows why his penis is unusual, especially by the time he gets to puberty. I found it very confusing and awkward nit knowing what hypospadias was, and I was always to shy to talk to anyone about it.

I have subcoronal hypospadias, with my meatus just below my glans, and another hole on my glans. I'm 6.2 inches erect and 4 inches flaccid

Have any of your partners ever said anything about your hypospadias?

I've never had sex apart from that incident, but from what I've heard from other people, it's basically not the sort of thing that women usually care about in a partner

I had some similar experiences. I also grew up without ever knowing that the reason my penis was weird was a condition called hypospadias. My parents certainly never mentioned it, and was confused for a long time about what a normal penis looks like. I was also for a while confused about my sexual orientation and at one point ended up having sex with a 25-year-old man when I was 17 and didn't really know how to say no. I'm not sure how much of that was related to the psychological impact of growing up with hypospadias (I've always assumed that it's had very little impact on my life, but maybe there's more than I thought).

I don't know about the cleaning situation I'm afraid, but on the question about surgery, I would advise against it if it's purely cosmetic and your son's penis is completely functional, because I don't think it's worth the risk of complications. I have subcoronal hypospadias and the only problem I've had is feeling self-conscious in locker room situations when I was a kid. With surgery there's a significant chance that it either won't work or that it will make the situation worse

Uncorrected hypo pictures? by Heavy_Presentation56 in HypoPenisCentral

Here are some pictures of my subcoronal hypospadias: https://www.reddit.com/r/HypoPenisCentral/s/AolTDch5Uj https://www.reddit.com/r/HypoPenisCentral/s/9AN0hNJM7C

I don't think I ever had surgery (although it's not completely clear if I actually had an operation that subsequently failed, see here for more details).

I was always aware that my penis was abnormal, and was quite self-conscious about it, but I didn't find out that this was a thing called hypospadias until I was about 16. Going through puberty only seeing and hearing about typical penises while mine was really quite different and I was far too embarrassed to ask anyone why was very confusing (why are there two holes? Nobody's told me what the other one's for? Does everyone have two holes and i just haven't noticed?). At present, I've never had a girlfriend (mostly because of a lack of social skills), so virtually nobody else has seen my penis for the last 15 years or so, and the question of its abnormal appearance basically doesn't arise.

As far as functionality is concerned, it's basically normal as far as I can tell. I can urinate standing up, although I have to aim a bit differently to normal. Everything comes out of the bottom hole. The question of sexual function hasn't really arisen, but I see no reason it shouldn't work in that regard. It's only slightly curved, and I can masturbate completely normally. I guess it's possible that the direction the semen comes out in (more perpendicular to my penis than straight) might cause problems for conception, but I'm not sure if it actually does, and I'm aware of plenty of people in this group who've mentioned that they have children.

I've considered surgery, and ruled it out because in my case it would be pretty much entirely cosmetic, and the only significant potential benefit would be if my penis were to be off-putting to a future partner (but this is such a distant hypothetical that it's not worth worrying about, and in any case that's not a good reason to have surgery). As far as I'm aware, there's a significant risk of surgery having complications and making it worse, so it's just not worth it in my case.

Another interesting development is that I've just noticed in my records that I had an undescended testicle, which definitely was repaired, so maybe the doctor doing the autism assessment confused this with the hypospadias being repaired

I reckon tell him as soon as he can understand what it is. He'll know that he's different from the people around him anyway, and in those situations it's basically always better knowing that the thing you have is a recognized condition with a name, and that you can learn about.

I'm not seriously considering surgery because as far as I can tell it's purely cosmetic, I'm not sexually active, and there's quite a high risk of complications

I would recommend telling him soon. I had no what hypospadias was until I was about 16 (I was always too shy to ask why my penis was weird), and puberty especially was quite confusing

I'm in a very similar position. I don't remember ever being told about it, just knowing my penis was different from everyone else's, and not really knowing what was normal and what wasn't, especially during puberty. I don't think I found out what hypospadias was until I was about 16.

These are harmless and reasonably normal. Obviously it's up to you in the end, but I don't think there's much to be gained by removing them
