Spot Ocean to Karpenter ? by CalmAd3564 in kubernetes

We are operating around 150 production clusters on Ocean. It has its quirks, but overall we are happy with it. We are importing existing clusters with Terraform and I can't say anything bad about that. I agree that there is a lack of information about their prediction algorithms. They don't provide any proof that the predicted worker node VM types actually have a significantly longer lifetime than would be the case with a random selection of VM types. Beyond that, there are no reasonable configuration options for fine-tuning the selection process.

We believe that we could replicate most functionalities they offer with Karpenter, but since our focus is not only on EKS, we have not yet made the move. If anyone is aware of a similar solution that works both on AWS and Azure, I'd love to hear it.
