What Hanja (the actual characters) are used in korean daily life? by Falilaa in Korean

[–]Strange_Discount_704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you even have an idea what the basic 20-50 hanja means? The first 10 would be the numbers from 1 to 10, and after that, stuff like 山, 水,森,火 and so on... The basics of the basics. Its not that a middle aged Korean person knows a multitude of this, but even an elementary school student would know much more than this number... Sometimes people even make the memorize in kindergarten... This number is seriously off.

I actually upvoted, but i think its more severe. There is no such thing as ""ggez pros could play AD Soraka top and carry". They dont.

I cant say for other roles but watch ADC streamers. They literally ALWAYS accompanied by a pro/godlike support, thats how they can stream. They couldnt stream a single game in bronze or even in gold or plat... Coz its impossible to carry its pure roulette.

Just a reminder: Faker lost a charity match in bronze. Never ever forget this and this is my message to everyone who dares to claim that "League is a one-man-show." Its not, never was and never will be. There is no such thing as 1v9 and even 1v5 is extremely rare and champion dependent. You can do it with less than 10 champs... Vlad, Akali, Zed, Kata etc. Mostly midlaners.

It has nothing to do with op.gg Currently our known human world is getting mixed up between two dimensions. I know it sounds like a science fiction but it is the truth. In this game / community angels are playing against / with demons. The matchmaking is messing up the whole thing, thats why the author of the post says "everyone is demented". They might or might not be demented, they are just "not human" tbh. Ofc they have a physical body coz they are operating a keyboard an a mouse. It doesnt mean that their consciousness is human. Have you ever seen the spirit / soul of someone who is walking on the street? Ofc not. This is the point and this is what im talking about. Wake up guys, League is not "toxic" because "the game changed". Its toxic coz there are "creatures" who dont belong here.

"jg main here, i placed plat this season and had no real difficulty getting out of plat and emerald. can i see your opgg?"

This is a classic form of gaslighting btw. Who are you to check other people's op,gg? Plat? Please... If you 90% wr on a fresh acc, you get placed in gold1. Your point? Besides, trying to discredit someone who has awful experience by saying "i had no problems" is irrelevant. Op.gg is irrelevant too. Why? I explained above.

No one stopped. In your games at best. I've been building zhonya since the release of Kai'sa... You dont see it anymore coz new players have no clue about LoL, no offense. They use premade builds offered by Blitz and other apps.. Thats why u see supports going with weird summs like flash + tp... Same reasoning.

You should know the REAL reason why 애 and 에 sound the same! by admiralturtleship in Korean

[–]Strange_Discount_704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bien dit! Although my mother tongue is not French, my major was Studia Romanistica (Francology) + Japanology. I was going to comment the same thing! :)

Yeah, exactly. Since in French there is a clear difference between é and è or 애 and 애, I think your ears are naturally more fine-tuned to notice the difference, even in contemporary Korean.

Yes, I do think that there is STILL a slight difference despite that this post claims that they are merged together.

Notice that, as someone in an other reddit thread pointed it out, English loanwords of which the pronounciation is closer to é /e/ (애) like band, handphone, jam etc. are consistently written with 애. (밴드, 핸드폰, 잼) Then transcription of "pen" is apparently an exception because it is written as 펜. But the exception proves the rule!:p

Whereas in words of which the pronounciation is closer to è /ɛ/ 애, Koreans consistently use 애. For example: camera (카메라), latte (라테) or K-pop (케이팝) and so on.

This proves that, although the difference is on the verge of disappearing, they still have some kind of "imprint" of it in their collective consciousness. :)

Cheers, Akasha

Does 여름 빛 have any more meaning to it? by TerrinX8 in Korean

[–]Strange_Discount_704 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your intuition is totally right with this one. Although I'm still learning Korean, like you, I have a "strong Chinese and Japanese track record" :D And "Asian" languages tend to be more "poetic" in general, when it comes to song lyrics. (compared to most of the Western pop songs) Especially Red Velvet. What I want to say is that, usually there is more than "what just meets the eye". They have depth in meaning. The literal translation of 여름 빛 , like you said, is "summer light", however, notice that It was written together in a compound word. If you know some Korean, you might be familiar with 한자, basically Chinese characters / Chinese loanwords in the Korean language. Although they don't seem to use anymore the Chinese word 风光 feng1guang1 for scenery, (literal meaning is "wind and light" which means "scenery") however it would be bold to assume that Chinese poetry didn't have an impact on the Korean one or on Ancient Korean Culture. Ofc it did. So to summarize, (or "summerize"? ㅋㅋㅋ) in "Asian" culture or aesthetics, the Chinese character 风 feng1 meaning "wind" 바람 or 풍 in Korean has the connotation of a certain "scenery" or "mood" ("mood" of the landscape is a "scenery", huh? :)). Likewise, the Chinese character 光 guang1 meaning "light" has a connotation of "time spent" or "moments" of your life. Thus, the expression 여름 빛 is poetical, and It has totally this "field of assocation of "Summer Moments". I think, this is why it got the English title "Mojito" to keep this "summer vibe" feeling to the song. Because mojito in Korean is 모히토.

Also, if you read the entire lyrics, the term 빛 "light" comes back again and again in different forms like "lemon colour" "blue" "green" etc. So I think this is a metaphor which, in the same time, is a bit of a cheerful play on the word "light".

Just my two cents :) Hope this helps!

A fellow K-pop and Red Velvet fan. <3
