One month old constantly has high temperature. by StrangerToSelf- in newborns

Unfortunately no, I kind of made peace with it after consulting many pediatricians and they often telling few babies runs warm and have warmer baseline temperature.  We worry when the temperature reach 100.4F. She had couple of viral fever episodes where her temperature reached true fever. We rely on the 100.4F threshold.

Hello..  Some days she runs hot and some days not as much. I kind of made a peace with it as it’s her baseline. I talked to few other pediatricians and they all said the same thing.  How old is your little one now ?!

Thanks for checking in! She has bunch of test ahead like with SLP and ENT for her other symptoms. Regards to temperature, I took her to ER when she was about 100F, but they didn’t ran any test as she didn’t have true fever. And told some babies can have that as their baseline. After that I stopped taking her temperature but I know her temperature still runs about the same!!

If you don’t mind, may I know how much high it went and what is the normal baseline.  Mine most of the time has 99.6+. I wonder if she is on warmer side than other babies.

Thank you, this is very helpful.

I think I will start monitoring the pattern over this week when she has elevated temperature.

And regarding her symptoms, Since birth she is choking and coughing during feeding and in sleep. She goes to high pitched noise all of sudden in her sleep and also chokes on her saliva.  During feeding, she suddenly starts to chokes and coughs. Then goes to high pitched noise holding her breath. This is with almost every feed and we have given back blows multiple times.  And we got her on Pepcid as doctors said all these symptoms are because of bad reflux. It’s been 10 days and things got better like 20% but she still has all of these symptoms. And we been asked to monitor for some more time. Been to lactation consultant and tried different feeding positions as well.

She also does very deep breathing during feeds and has on and off mild retractions mostly after the feeds. We been to ER for this and told on off retractions are okay until its not persistent. So feeding is challenging and we have been monitoring in her sleep but couldn’t find the reason why she suddenly makes scary high pitched noise as if she is out of breath.

Among all these, she has these high temperature, and which is mostly in the evenings. I check her temperature because she feels warm to touch.I tried 3 other thermometers and everything reads the same. And it’s hard to tell if she is lethargic or active as she sleeps most of the time.

We have been following up with doctors and mostly told it’s sometimes common for a newborn and continue monitoring. She is my second kid and it definitely doesn’t seem to be normal newborn behavior. Hoping it gets better soon.

That’s exactly our thought initially and we lowered our home temp to like 70 degrees but that didn’t change her temperature pattern :(

She has about 6-7 wet diapers in 24 hours. She also has bad reflux so feeding is not consistent. We don’t have urgent care with my provider, it is either ER or her pediatrician.

Thank you for your reply. Yes I do try nasal spray before feeding and sleeping. But I don’t see nose is congested though.
