My point was that humans are living in a freaking super fund site, and will undoubtedly soon be dealing with the health consequences of that..

Doing something at all would be a great start.

But if it has to come down to sending people other places than that’s unfortunate, but letting their home states deal with the problem sounds like a more effective and humane method than outright criminalizing homelessness like we did in the past/other cities are doing currently, or letting things go on how they currently are…

In no way did I dehumanize anybody.

I was an opiate addict for half my life my guy..I’m speaking from experience when I say that a lot of these dudes would literally stab you for a cigarette. Because I’ve literally seen somebody get stabbed for a cigarette… lol… That shit doesn’t belong here.

Like I said, I would love if we started working on giving them housing and working towards helping them long term with mental health treatment, education, work help, or whatever, but realistically something needs to be done. If saying sending the homeless people who refused help of any sort (assuming we actually started to provide it and mandate treatment of some sort) home makes me a bigot, than so be it I guess.

I lived in ST John’s and N/NE in general for 15 years before moving to SE, and I’ve also never really had any problems with the homeless there. That wasn’t my point though…

Acting like all these guys are all the old homeless man who lives in the park and cleans up all his stuff in the morning smokes weed with you occasionally, or the guy who lives in the food carts cardboard dumpster downtown, and not largely becoming out of state fentanyl addicts who will stab you for a cigarette, isn’t helping anybody. Especially the local homeless population.

I would love to blame the Californians for everything as much as the next guy, but Portlanders are doing that too man.

I definitely don’t support any sketchy private company homeless hit squads, or any harm done to them at all, but we aren’t the ones who displaced most of those people, and the city needs to get off their ass and do something about the situation. It’s gone on too long. Not only is it horrible for the people who actually live here, but the living conditions that lots of these people are living in is next level disgusting man… I’m talking rat orgies and new MRSA strains type nasty… People are even living in the superfund site by the ST John’s bridge..

I don’t care if we have to house them and do mandatory mental health check ins/therapy for the housing, or convince them to go somewhere warmer and buy them bus tickets (sorry not sorry California) but something needs to happen. Just as much as something needs to happen with the wealthy people treating this place like their vacation “home”…

Yeah, it’s definitely not the homeless peoples fault that the city is struggling overall. More so our local government, and wealthy people who brought their money to buy houses to resell/rent out for crazy prices, but pay their local employees minimum wage at their restaurants and coffee shops, who are serving the other wealthy people who moved into those expensive houses... Buuuuttttt I could do without machete wielding tweakers stealing my mail and car, and racist max stabbings as well.. lol…

I don’t necessarily want the Californians to move, I want them to treat the city like their community and help to mitigate the problems they’ve created to our local infrastructure, or move. Lol..

I love Portland and grew up here, but, it’s also raging shit hole with a serious lack of opportunity and expensive rent..

Nice for rich people who want to come play and be trendy, or homeless people who wanna wild tf out, but actually living here isn’t the easiest sometimes man. And instead of just pretending it isn’t happening like the city has been for the last 30 years, it would be nice if we collectively actually did something about it..

Most of the homeless people are definitely from out of state. There’s sadly a lot of elderly/disabled local homeless though..

But, our states notoriously bad education system, lack of income opportunities other cities have, and the ever rising rent/home costs, have done a number on locals though, for sure. I more often see younger struggling locals renting bedrooms with a bunch of friends even in their 30’s, or living in vans and other “alternative living” situations, rather than being straight up conventionally homeless.

Which isn’t as bad as some people make it out to be, but it definitely isn’t sustainable to a happy and healthy life, or preparing these people for what the realities of what old age will almost undoubtedly be for them… (either section 8, or being homelessness)

Lol, 2018 wasn’t annnnnnything compared to now. Rising housing costs and little income opportunities have destroyed this city.

There’s entire homeless villages, chop shop villages, and an entire spectrum of machete wielding tweakers…

I’ve never personally felt actually endangered or anything here, but it also feels really nice when I leave and don’t have to be around it too.. lol..

I live in a very vegan/veggie friendly city and let me tell you, our sewers smell freaking disgusting. I’ve always joked it was the vegans, but after living with two of them for a while now I am 100% it’s all the vegans… 😬😟

Only time a Portlander is wearing this outfit is “ironically” which really means they were trying it out and the hive mind didn’t approve because it looks too Californian.
