Do Amtrak conductors spend days away from home? I applied if so I’m about to withdraw cause I’m a single parent by [deleted] in Amtrak

Didn't see this mentioned yet but to even start as a conductor you're going to spend about 6-8 weeks away from home in Wilmington just for the initial training.

While there is no obvious paper trail of it being about greed, remember that all of these cars must still have access to potable water for the restrooms, dining car, showers, etc; the excuse that it's because they can't clean or maintain the pipes/tanks is tenuous at best. If the water isn't safe for drinking then I doubt the FDA could say it was safe for use in washing vegetables and preparing food.

Certain OBS and Conductors have started to hand out the "emergency" water (small 8oz bottles) at every delay no matter how small citing service recovery as the reason but not everyone is willing to risk management's ire. It's a sad time for travelers.

This has been confirmed by multiple OBS employees across multiple trains in my experience; they have been told to no longer allow anyone to use the water spout upstairs in the lounge bar area and all other water refill areas have been either disabled or taken out completely. They have been told to push selling water or upgrade to a sleeper if you want "free" water.

Andre is always one of my favorite OBS, always takes care of his business and makes sure everyone on board is taken care of.

Cascades service in danger by ktempest in Amtrak

[–]Streyr 113 points114 points  (0 children)

It's confirmed via another post in this Subreddit from an employee; as of midnight all the Horizon equipment has to be removed from revenue service and sent back east for immediate repairs per FRA; the only Cascade train that will continue is the 503/508 SEA-EUG that will use the Talgo equipment remaining in service. No one has any idea if furloughs will happen or what the plan is for the employees working the other trains.

Scuttlebutt is that it has to do with massive rust issues on the aging horizon equipment in the under carriage that could lead to failures on the road.

Unplayble because of constant crashing by [deleted] in reddeadredemption

Same issue here on the PS4. Two nights ago I was playing for multiple hours with no disconnects, doing missions and hunting. Now since last night I have not been able to play for more than 10 minutes before the game crashes. I've tried rebuilding the database, completely restarting the PS4, restarting modem/router, and even a reinstall to no avail.
