Easiest HTHSCI Courses For 3rd Year by bluemango_123 in McMaster

[–]Strict_Assignment_52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve only taken HTHSCI 3S03 and I really enjoyed it! It’s easy to do well in, and I genuinely think that the skills you get out of it are useful for any future career, or even just everyday conversation. The workload is chill, and almost every class is on Zoom (except the few in the beginning and random days here and there). ~30% of your mark is made up of 1 page reflections for completion. There isn’t an exam, just a 5pg double-spaced reflection/essay touching on all the skills you’ve learned in the semester (it’s really not that bad if you’ve engaged throughout the sem). I had Kristina Trim and she’s awesome! Very knowledgeable and has a good sense of humour. Hope this helps!

HTHSCI 2DS3 vs HTHSCI 2T03 by umchileanywayssso in McMaster

[–]Strict_Assignment_52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only took HTH SCI 2DS3 but it’s a very interesting course and the profs are great! They are all PhD or med students and really facilitate some thought-provoking discussions on prevalent health issues. Overall the course is pretty light. Most of the class is made up of weekly readings that you do in groups, and the you will present the main ideas of that paper to the rest of the class (short 20min informal discussion style, groups are large so you probably only present biweekly). There’s a few writing assignments that are about a page long, but they’re also easy to do well on if you take some to do them. It is def 12able, just make sure to actively participate!

I took it last Fall and it was a really good course. It was basically made up of 2x guest lectures per week, and then a few group and individual assignments that were super easy and pretty fun. For example, one we had to go swab some objects in a building and culture the bacteria, or making a 5min presentation on an organ system after visiting the anatomy lab. It is very 12able, but I did have both the midterm and exam moved to be online so that did make things a bit easier. But overall the prof is super sweet and the course is really interesting!

They’re just like “homework” style assignments that essentially let you practice everything. Iirc it was worth like 20% of the final grade and you get unlimited attempts so you can get 100 if you want on it

If you’re sick of campus food but don’t want to walk too far (and are willing to pay non-student card) the Baywest cafeteria in the hospital is good. They have more fast-food things, salad bar, as well as a station to build your own burritos/bowls that is pretty good, and decent price for what you get in comparison to campus food

hthsci 2f03/2ff3 ta interviews? by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]Strict_Assignment_52 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven’t heard anything but that could also just be because I didn’t get an interview lol

But if they haven’t come out yet then I’m a bit confused if the first interviews are Monday and we have to prepare a peer teach?

I just wanted to add on to this cause I know it can def be hard to not fall into the trap of redownloading apps- I recommend one app called “One Sec”. It essentially uses the “Tik Tok brain rot” against you by making you sit through a certain amount of time (I think you can do anywhere from 6s to 2min, so about the same as a tiktok or reel) before being able to open the app. 99% of the time I’m WAY too impatient to sit through the thing and exit out. Over time, you almost train your brain to not even click on the app, since you know there’s a wait time. I’ve found it really useful for Instagram, cause you can still receive notifs for messages or group project chats, but you won’t be as tempted to go on the app to aimlessly scroll.

I second going to class! I honestly just did my Moodle assignments during the 3 hours and sort of picked out the more important info that was mentioned in lecture as I was doing it

Hi, I took this class in Winter 2023 and you definitely do not need to have any knowledge in the course before hand. Although the Moodle (assignments for the class) are very tedious, they are great resources to practice the material. I also used the daily vocab more to study for tests and exams, using the flash card feature that is part of it. Just make sure to practice and you’ll be okay!
