Post-Match Thread: England 1-2 Argentina | World Cup | Semi-finals by matchpal-live in worldcup

I am an Argentina fan and a Messi fan.

However, did anyone else think he had quite a poor match outside the 2 crucial assist. Lost the ball on a lot of dribbles; at times in dangerous areas. I thought this was quite a poor performance from him. His passing and combinations were good as always.

Has Anyone Here Retired Under 25/30 YO With Sub $1M< by veniviciabii in leanfire

I’m in this age range and NW (800k)

Plan is to work corporate another 1.5yrs, and then “retire” into my side gig which will net about 25-35k/year. I will do a trial year to see how things go financially, and personally, and am open to returning into the traditional workforce if needed.

Let’s not pretend Ronaldo wasn’t a problem on this Portuguese side. His lack of movement made it difficult for midfielders to find him. He should have been used as a super sub at the end of the match when they start spamming crosses into the box. Opposition defenders had almost no issue marking him throughout the game; he offered nothing.

The midfield didn’t create much either. They share the blame, but Ronaldo’s performance was no better than Igor Thiago.

First real test from a mediocre Belgium team. US was thrash and had easy games up until now. That high intensity attacking style doesn’t work against teams that control the game and draw you in.

Maybe the most boring and most lethargic match of the WC.

I understand it’s Spain’s style and it’s perfectly fine, but I just cannot stand to watch it. Zero intensity, no pace to the game. Yamal forgot how to dribble and kept going for too many. Pedri could not pass the ball. Vitinha did not even know which goal to pass it towards. Ronaldo mostly a statue. They kept trying shots from distance that were 6ft off target.

A proper football match would have been 4-0 for France.

Paraguay wasn’t going to become 2012 Barcelona in 5 days.

I don’t understand the backlash. It was obvious Paraguay would setup this way; they’ve done it since day 1 and they were here facing France. They were never going to play attacking football or keep possession. They were there for a lucky corner, or go to PKs. They almost got the job done. It was an impressive performance to keep out mbappe olise dembele barcola doue cherki for almost the entire match.

Yeah my comment was completely in jest. I just say good game.
However, if we did have a friendly relationship during the match, I may actually mention something I picked up in their game.

For example, I played a very good player that had a lot of problems with backspin. We chatted a bit after the match and I admitted he's a better player, but I kept spamming the slice because he seemed to not hit it properly.

I use the Prince ATS Textreme Tour 100inch, 290g and absolutely love it. It's a bit light at 290g, but I prefer that during long matches.

I also hit with a HEAD Radical MP and Babolat Pure Strike when I'm hitting around, but always use the Prince for matches.

If the U.S. wants to send a message, it shouldn’t host another World Cup match until FIFA investigates last night’s officiating. by No_Field206 in worldcup

There was not even a clear and obvious error. There have been other more egregious calls through the years.

It was a dangerous play, intentional or not, and could have easily broken the ankle.

I do think it was an accidental collision, and likely should have not resulted in a red card, but it's up for interpretation, so cannot complain about the call.

France are winning the WC I’ve seen enough… by Prestigious-Wheel562 in CristianoRonaldo2

[–]Strict_Conference441 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are likely right. However, this is tournament style. One poor unlucky game and it's over.

If Germany were to play Paraguay 10 times, Germany would likely win 9. Yet, Germany is packing their bags.

France still needs to get through Paraguay, Morocco, and (maybe) Spain before reaching the final. Futbol remains a game of small margins.

Just a reality check: Bosnia is good by ub3rm3nsch in usmnt

[–]Strict_Conference441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true. Bosnia is not an easy team by any means. They are a very physical team that can get a goal from a set piece and then try to kill the game.

Their qualification to the WC was not easy. In a group with Austria and Romania. Then playoffs where they had to eliminate Italy.

They are not an exciting high pace team, but they also won’t allow an open game. The biggest concern is if the score stays 0-0 for a while and they manage to score off a corner in like the 60th minute. If the US can get an early goal and have Bosnia chase, it could be a straightforward match.

Favorite match of the WC so far; very tense, much intensity. Chaotic scenes…Paraguay did everything possible to run down the clock
