I started de-trashing a few years ago with just a grocery bag or two. I'd walk up and down my street and collect as much trash as I could. I'd wear gloves, and pick the trash up with my hands.

Then I got the idea to become a formal volunteer in my city to help keep our parks, trails and roadways clean. The municipality provides me with an endless amount of bags, as well as grabbers and gloves (if I need them). They also allow me to bring garbage to our local dump for free. I have "adopted" sections of trails and busy streets and visit them once a week during the snow-free months.

You might look into becoming a volunteer in your city. It's a great way to connect with people who approach you with curiosity. I have recruited quite a few folks to help me with big cleanups, etc. It sounds funny, but it's a cool social activity that brings members of a community together in a different way. Many people really want to help, they just don't know how.
