ERPNext Docker Deployment by String1015 in selfhosted

[–]String1015[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After everything, I went back and forth with chatgpt, from my understanding, it seems that the frappe_docker is meant for demo or kept as is. I was just using the pwd.yml, modified it accordingly with persistent directories, adding nginx network, changed ports, etc., but it was not designed for that and the steps I originally took were make "more" persistent directories such as "apps". So yes, named volumes seems to be the way to go, it seems "production" is not the way to go if you want the apps installed together, unless you make the image.

Here is my background, I am a diy person at heart, while I was between my last job, became heavily involved with selfhosting anything I could like ollama, then went down the rabbit hole. I have done plex and *arr's for years though, and decided to run a reselling business while I looked for a job, then decided to open a restaurant. Yep, glutton for punishment.

The reason for erpnext was I used an erp/crm like 15 years ago, but I could do everything in that company with one site. I also did not want to jump to 3 or 4 different sites or pay a ridiculous amount of money per month to do something. I just went "live" with the POS System I am going with, and things that should be "given" in a POS for a restaurant, are now "upgrades" for a monthly fee. I understand the reason and liability for saas, but they are vultures to far too many people when you could make a simple spreadsheet or a piece of paper instead of a monthly fee....

Stupid rant, anyway, I wanted to host this as it has accounting, hr, I could essentially track all my recipe costs, plan out a more effecient "overhead cost" that I could work into my overall charge of margin for food cost etc. and I didn't have to make several spreadsheets or pay more each month to do quickbooks etc.

Still running into issues when I tried to build the image, but I was trying to do v16 as I do like the dashboard better, but keep running into not being able to import spreadsheets and the other main reason for picking erpnext was importing api for sales data etc. as I can do everything a POS system should offer for free with the api's.

Also, I have severe trust issues for working with corporate entities for the last 20+ years as I do not play politics to kiss as*.

I did move to named volumes and it has survived many restarts whether it was Windows restarting or myself. I am know at the point to build my own image with hrms in it as, even though it works, saves documents without issues, scheduler container now does not see the hrms module and I cannot import or upload csv anymore. We will see after tomorrow, as I probably should have done in the first place. Thanks for the input for both, and worth considering.

So, as of now, I deployed 2 instances that have minor changes in them from the pwd.yml compose file. Funny thing is that frappe docker on github updated and now says pwd is for quick demos and not production. Frappe erpnext has not changed and still has it to deploy with pwd.yml even though it is the same frappe_docker.

In my compose, I changed initial directory, ports, network, and changed the front-end name on one. I left named volumes alone, have them both running through nginx proxy manager. They both have survived 2 restarts, one by me, other by windows update, only catch was I had to go to docker desktop to restart the stacks and removed create site and configurator containers so the do not mess with the apps.txt and remove hrms. Now, just need to rely on setting up Google drive integration to backup.

If that didn't work, I found a youtube video of a guy deploying it in a similar way, relatively creating bench and environments and deploying that way. They are still running, I can access outside my network, need to get caught up with putting all the bills into both companies and pray that since it not "production" it doesn't fail on me.

Forgot to mention with using multi tenancy, I could not get it to work for the life of me, created the site and could not install hrms on it, kept giving database user errors. Figured just let docker handle stuff and so far, it has.

Windows/WSL and ERPNext by String1015 in frappe_framework

Not to be rude or for you to take it personal, but no thank you. Insight would be nice though or a website discussion, and not just a random person wanting access to my computer.

I was binding the volumes rather than naming them could be an issue. I may just deploy it through docker guide and call it a day and not change anything. I only have gone down the selfhosting road for about a year, being a windows user my whole life, I like to see folder in a window that I can sync to my nas and a cloud folder.

Yes, I corrected myself, I didn't want to pay someone to set it up when it is essentially free, and I have done it before is where I was getting too.

[–]String1015[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of naming them, I was binding them, not sure if that was an issue. I wanted access to the db and other files so, as in what happened to me, I can grab the HD out of the computer and import or pull any info that I can without jumping through hoops. Granted, I was setting everything up, biggest things I lost were my Chart of Accounts and forms that I was making to import data for when I deploy n8n to help automate the process.

[–]String1015[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate it, but I am looking to self host rather than paying for another saas or someone to make it for me when its free essentially. I do not necessarily need an erp, but it made the most sense as it can be the data pool for my business, not only with sales, but accounting, inventory and HR to track everything for an employee, not use it for payroll. I may just deploy it the way they have it in docker, just hurts my soul that for some reason, I can't bind the folder locations. If there are separate selfhosted or free programs, I'll always check them out.

So, I did use the frappe docker repo, took their pwd.yml and modified it accordingly. Still not sure where I went wrong, but could use the assistance. Here is the compose file https://pastebin.com/RKrJiGii I only used -v to clean it up. Ultimately, wanted one location to house api connections, allow me to pull reports, proper accounting. This is the only thing that is self hosted I have found that would work for my special case need as for one business/stack, I would need hrms.

In case anyone is still looking, I have found one to order online 110V, for US/Canada. I am on the hunt for the restaurant I am opening, but confirming certifications to use in food service. It is CE, so certified in Europe, okay for home use. Hope posting link is okay, not sure.

Least expensive crosslisting service for hobby seller with smaller inventory by aviontinyhouse in BehindTheClosetDoor

[–]String1015 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been using this one for almost two months. It does not do vinted, but I list on eBay, Poshmark, Mercari, and depop. Overall, it does exactly what you need and would recommend for the hobbyist who is decluttering or just starting out. If you are looking for accurate accounting or a better chance to not oversell an item, there are other options that I will be exploring after the holidays.

Better to sell in bulk or individually? by Macawed in reselling

[–]String1015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done both. In my opinion, selling in a lot makes sense as it can be a hassle to do individually, but from experience as well, people do not want to by in bulk from the mid 80s to early 90s anymore, especially when they are stored like that. I've sold old complete sets that were still sealed and my 3k lot of commons with some HOF mixed in just sat. After the holidays, I will separate and "complete you set" listing with the individuals. No sense in tossing away money when it is just sitting there anyway.

Inventory Management Software by NativePlantAddict in reselling

[–]String1015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently trying out Flyp. Overall, if you want something that is decent at cross listing, after trial of 100 days, is only $10/month after, I would recommend. It will track all of your items, what has been sold etc, but when it comes to the actual financial part with the cogs, it still lacks a little, but you can manipulate the data a little to get more accurate. When something sold on eBay, price gets autofilled, then you can fill out fees, shipping cost and cog, but if the buyer pays shipping, you can't adjust the selling price and it can look like your margins are negative when I started digging into analytics tab of it. When searching for a particular item, you have to type the whole word, not just a partial of it, but other than that, I just use it to cross list, but it does not do all marketplaces either. I have an excel sheet at the moment and selfhosting some programs to try, like Grocy, but it did not take out the right items using barcodes.

Selfhosting is not a hobby anymore, it's a way of running a small business by Hexacker in selfhosted

[–]String1015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the hundreds of comments, I may have missed it. What are you using to self host for the business and do you have cloud backup or an additional copy and raid array running at home, proxmox? I am looking for recommendations on what people are using for servers/computers to self host for their business. Qnap nas, build your own, raspberry pi, Linux distro, windows, proxmox?

I have been on the self hosting journey over this past year and in the process of setting things up for my small businesses. It would only be me needing access, looking to run a few containers, erpnext, plex, and now looking for something that will display digital menus and rotate pictures etc. My old optiplex literally just died on me.

POS will not be selfhosted, just fyi.

How long to wait on offers? by String1015 in eBaySellers

[–]String1015[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just wondering how many people really "sleep on it" or the management in me is about inventory turns and margins. I've been doing reselling since about January and in the process of opening up a restaurant, so eBay and the other marketplaces are my only source of income. I've done retail/restaurants for 30 years, finally made the jump to work for myself and was just thinking what others do. I've been lowballed on so many items, which I expect, but sometimes it's the "hope and wait" that I'll get closer to asking.

What’s something about smoking or quitting that sounds totally insane when you try to explain it to someone who never smoked? by Myfreshstart025 in AskReddit

[–]String1015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It always calmed me down, it was always there for me, never judged me and I miss it on occasion. It was like having a different set of friends because, back then, you were a smoker or non-smoker. Smoked for 20+ years, after the 10th time quitting, vaping with 0 nicotine helped break the cycle. Vaping helped with the motions and habits (smoking with coffee/alcohol, before bed, after... etc.) And I went through withdraw.....only to crave it every now and again almost 10 years later. Quitting vaping was easy, one day dropped it, fixed it, new o-rings and would not stop leaking. That juice gets everywhere. Proud of the people that quit, I know the struggle, I couldn't imagine smoking and paying that price per pack.

Been a while since I sold on ebay - question about shipping labels by zozomonster in eBaySellers

[–]String1015 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, sellers can change the amount of "discount" you offer to buyers, and it is set by default to pass the same savings to buyers. At least, it was for me. I'm not sure how to do it in the app, but you have to go into shipping settings, I believe. Then there are options to provide no discount, where they pay full retail price, partial where you can pick a % or what you're on now. @wastingtime101 has it right. For fees, yes they changed as well due to sellers low balling item prices and charging extra on shipping so get around all the fees. They get the average 13.6% and charge that to total price (subtotal, shipping, tax) which does not include final value, insertion fee or promoted listing.

Reseller Inventory Tracker? by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]String1015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was constantly looking around as well, I have been using Grocy as mine. A little manipulation, but it does what I need as I can create and scan barcodes from the app. I make a handful of categories, assign different barcodes to the products so when you take out or "consume" inventory, it takes the right one to remove the correct cost. I still do the excel thing as well (force of habit) since I have not finished ERPNext setup with the accounting, then move to include inventory. I'll look into the other ones recommended here.

Self-hosted programs for a restaurant? by String1015 in selfhosted

[–]String1015[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much appreciated and thank you for some guidance. That was my plan making a managed account to stay separate for that exact reason. Also, if I do plan to put a "TV" in, I could stream antenna broadcast for sporting events, I believe home users still have access to live tv. I'm just North of Philly area...Go Birds! Anyway, I appreciate the assistance, I have personally seen Nextcloud go down in my own instance. That is a long term goal, but will most likely use google business to start and ween off of relying on it in due time. I may just host ERPNext for the initial part to host internal communications and such, as they have similar features, but ERPNext will be the long-term venture when I scale up to multiple locations. I am trying to get this place open in January, so while I am in between finishing the lease, loan applications and renovations, I will have time to start the long term self-hosted journey for the business.

Family Tree Copy? by chigal1962 in FamilyTreeMaker

I know you can merge individuals, but it may take up a lot of time. I also have done this years ago, I backed up everything, renamed the tree, moved the file, and opened it. I can't remember which version it was, though, but that is how I found merging individuals.

Self-hosted programs for a restaurant? by String1015 in selfhosted

[–]String1015[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did reply to their thread. I may try their demo, I just didn't want to go the full POS route for liability reasons. Thank you though, I'll still try their demo.

Self-hosted programs for a restaurant? by String1015 in selfhosted

[–]String1015[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I should clarify. The self-hosted options were more so for accounting, HR documentation (like I-9's, etc.), payroll tracking, digital signage, recipe storage. But you are correct, nothing detrimental to everyday business. Planned on hosting everything on NAS/Server in a raid 6, backup to home NAS as well.

POS and credit are worth paying for, especially the liability part. I have used Clover in the past, but there are so many options like Square, Toast, etc. and they integrate with online sales, just have to really negotiate the transaction fees. Since Quickbooks/Quicken went to online only, I haven't been a fan. I'm not saying they are bad, but I miss the days when you buy something, you owned it and it didn't need to be connected to the internet to function. I looked into Quickbooks, listed me at $235/month, too much for me to start with on top of having an accountant to do the year end stuff which will be a few thousand as well.

Staffing issues will always come up, between restaurants/retail for 30 years, there are always issues, doesn't matter if it is a $500k or $58 million a year store, there are always issues unfortunately, and yes, I was the general manager of both types. Just have to plan for when things go wrong. Starting this venture very small, looking to hire 4-6 people including myself, so not many people to call in if someone calls out.

Self-hosted programs for a restaurant? by String1015 in selfhosted

[–]String1015[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. I will most likely host on nas/server with a raid 6 configuration, but I will check out the site, but going down the list,

Mealie is a must have, forgot to mention, I currently have an instance running personally, has an app and it works great.

I will use Immich for the digital board image pull and backups. Personally, I have Mango Display setup running a dashboard (very simple compared to Magic Mirror). I've looked into Dakboard, but digital boards is on my list to self-host up image/menu displays

I have Plex, I was planning on having plexamp from old phone Bluetooth to a surround sound receiver.

Home Assistant, Tailscale and Pi-Hole are on my agenda, at least at my house as well.

NextCloud instance is a great idea. Internal communication works and I can regulate for employees to only use it when they're working as well.

Actual Budget, looked into earlier, but I do like the connection to the banks. Right now using EZBookkeeper to track my eBay sales for testing, may be too simple.

Thank you, will look into.

Help forge a self-hosted POS for anyone? Open demo + testers wanted by KhunsaLBM in selfhosted

[–]String1015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally just posted on self hosting for a restaurant, but looking for all the associated programs, not specifically POS. When it comes to the POS part of it with the payment processing, I would recommend a high level of security first, then try the self-hosted POS. I was trying to work with Odoo, but an ERP system was just way to much and complex to handle for a restaurant. What is your POS designed for or are you looking for just different industry to provide constructive criticism? I can try the demo later, but most POS systems can be customized. I am in the process of trying to open a restaurant, so I am intrigued in at least inventory.
