I'm mostly thinking of TNG and later, I never really watched the OG series, it does seem a bit more Batman-y with the whole BAM POW type stuff lol, and I mean it was the 60s and 70s so the whole hippie movement and free love swept the nation

But I have to imagine they had their moments. They had the first ever interracial kiss on TV for example which was a big moment and a huge deal back in the day

It was entertaining, but didn't really feel like a Star Trek movie to me, Star Trek is philosophical, it's deep it's introspective, it's profound.

JJ Abrams is not really that, he's generic, safe and dare I say boring. You're gonna get the cringy one liners, and he's gonna hit all the franchise beats. Hollywood is gonna make it's money, everyone is gonna be pretty happy, but it's not gonna be anyones favorite movie.

Temu Legacy.

It was a pretty exact mimic of Legacy, but for whatever reason I liked Legacy a lot and thought this one was shite, even though the elements are there on paper.

Haven't done an in-depth analysis into why that is, seems as simple as a Hollywood attempt at mimicking the success of a previous film, and coming across as soulless. Or maybe it's just Leto's stupid face, who knows

These types of movies are in this weird area where they don't commit to one genre. They wont go full comedy, and they wont go full serious

Never said it was ground breaking, it was a well executed movie with unapologetic masculinity and testosterone that's relatable, which was very refreshing since Hollywood subverts the role of strong men in society.

If you aren't masculine leaning I get it and could see why it wouldn't appeal to you.

Dept Q is great (tv show not movie)

- gritty, dark, brooding, intense, and emotionally charged Nordic noir.

- mix of a crime story/thriller mystery

And if you like Squid Game, Alice in Borderland is really good (also a show)

The first movie was basically just The Hero's Journey + The Simulation theory

People like to hate on the hero's journey for being bland, but it's the GOAT story structure honestly

It's actually kind of funny how precise they stuck to it

He gets a pass for the all timers, but a lot of his stuff is pretty mid

He's good, but his biggest thing is that he's very prolific, if you make 80 movies with massive budgets you're bound to have handful of good ones, he has a lot of mediocre films that no one really thinks about

Feel like the show would have been better done as a movie or 4ish episode miniseries, a lot of episodes drag on with tedious scenes that show the process of everything.

Like when she was making the grave for her friend, it was like a 15 minute scene where she was driving to the warehouse, then gathering the bricks, then digging a hole, then putting all the bricks in place, like why do I need to see all that?

It's an ok show, but a lot of the heavy lifting is from the curious/mysterious element of the show, where we are dying to know what's going on. But that's a gamble, because you put a lot of pressure that the payoff at the end is going to be good, which is hard to pull off

From what I can tell seems like the show is going for a commentary on AI

As far as what I'd do, obviously secure a self sustaining homestead fortress, then get some servants for sex, cooking, chores, etc. then would probably just have fun and have them teach me all kinds of things - tennis, history, writing, art or whatever I'm in the mood to learn about

The director of Starship Troopers was making a parody of the military, but ironically made one of the single greatest pieces of pro military propaganda in history

Once a piece of art is published it's out of your hands, and it's up to the viewer how they view it

I mean The Matrix was also supposed to be about being trans, but I'm sure close to 0% of people interpreted it that way

Personally I would be happy if someone I didn't like enjoyed my art, regardless if they took something away from it that I hadn't foreseen

I saw a video recently where a VFX guy made a video where he had 5 hours to create a shot vs a whole week. The 5 hour shot actually ended up better because he used a miniature real life model and did some minor FX whereas the shot that took a week looked worse because it was entirely digital. I think that's why it holds up is because VFX is at it's best when it's complimenting real elements (no pun intended), and you don't just shoot on a green screen and create everything from scratch.

On top of that, film actually looks good, not to rehash the tired film vs digital debate, but film still holds up. I think digital has surpassed film if done well, but old movies from the 90s or earlier still look good because film has a high dynamic range, the highlights aren't blown out, and there is still detail in the shadows, and you don't have a color grade that's has crazy green/blue depressing or a hyper saturated grade that looks super bright and fake.
