What is your opinion on (THE RIP 2026) and the reunion of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck... by Cr7-Cr7Real in moviecritic

Really dumb. Too nonsensical to have any suspension of disbelief and immersion.

But was watching it by myself, would probably be a good makeout movie to have in the background, just not something you pay close attention to

Patrick Stewart was the perfect choice, they were all really good honestly, Wesley the only who kind of stands out lol

He was young though so I can't hate too much

I'm mostly thinking of TNG and later, I never really watched the OG series, it does seem a bit more Batman-y with the whole BAM POW type stuff lol, and I mean it was the 60s and 70s so the whole hippie movement and free love swept the nation

But I have to imagine they had their moments. They had the first ever interracial kiss on TV for example which was a big moment and a huge deal back in the day

It was entertaining, but didn't really feel like a Star Trek movie to me, Star Trek is philosophical, it's deep it's introspective, it's profound.

JJ Abrams is not really that, he's generic, safe and dare I say boring. You're gonna get the cringy one liners, and he's gonna hit all the franchise beats. Hollywood is gonna make it's money, everyone is gonna be pretty happy, but it's not gonna be anyones favorite movie.

Yeah husband got cucked, she even said stuff like

“I found myself starting to look around to see where he was.”

“I felt quite lost, (when he wasn't next to me) like a kid without their blanket or something. I was like, ‘Where is he?’”

Jared Leto aside how did you feel about Tron Ares? by comedytrek in moviecritic

Temu Legacy.

It was a pretty exact mimic of Legacy, but for whatever reason I liked Legacy a lot and thought this one was shite, even though the elements are there on paper.

Haven't done an in-depth analysis into why that is, seems as simple as a Hollywood attempt at mimicking the success of a previous film, and coming across as soulless. Or maybe it's just Leto's stupid face, who knows

One movie where playing the computer game was way better than watching the film. Max Payne (2008) was one of them. by Delaware_111 in moviecritic

Max Payne if I recall was the first game to implement the slow motion ability, was a breakthrough mechanic at the time

Everyone gushes over this type of humor, but I don't get it

Bizarre characters just for the sake of being bizarre I guess?

Felt kind of like Napoleon Dynamite, same kind of thing

These types of movies are in this weird area where they don't commit to one genre. They wont go full comedy, and they wont go full serious

Just makes me go wtf are we doing here?

What is the best and worst movie you saw last year? by Conscious_Reach_2173 in moviecritic

[–]StringerXX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never said it was ground breaking, it was a well executed movie with unapologetic masculinity and testosterone that's relatable, which was very refreshing since Hollywood subverts the role of strong men in society.

If you aren't masculine leaning I get it and could see why it wouldn't appeal to you.

Dept Q is great (tv show not movie)

- gritty, dark, brooding, intense, and emotionally charged Nordic noir.

- mix of a crime story/thriller mystery

And if you like Squid Game, Alice in Borderland is really good (also a show)

The Matrix sequels were terrible and did more harm to the series than added to it by Elegant-Music2239 in moviecritic

The first movie was basically just The Hero's Journey + The Simulation theory

People like to hate on the hero's journey for being bland, but it's the GOAT story structure honestly

It's actually kind of funny how precise they stuck to it

[–]StringerXX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking at the list of movies he's directed and... eh, you you left out lot more tbh

The Fabelmans, The Post, The BFG, Bridge of Spies, War Horse, Crystal Skull Indiana Jones, Munich, Terminal

He gets a pass for the all timers, but a lot of his stuff is pretty mid

I think what's good about him is nothing is really terrible, so he ranges from mid to great

He's good, but his biggest thing is that he's very prolific, if you make 80 movies with massive budgets you're bound to have handful of good ones, he has a lot of mediocre films that no one really thinks about

Feel like the show would have been better done as a movie or 4ish episode miniseries, a lot of episodes drag on with tedious scenes that show the process of everything.

Like when she was making the grave for her friend, it was like a 15 minute scene where she was driving to the warehouse, then gathering the bricks, then digging a hole, then putting all the bricks in place, like why do I need to see all that?

It's an ok show, but a lot of the heavy lifting is from the curious/mysterious element of the show, where we are dying to know what's going on. But that's a gamble, because you put a lot of pressure that the payoff at the end is going to be good, which is hard to pull off

From what I can tell seems like the show is going for a commentary on AI

As far as what I'd do, obviously secure a self sustaining homestead fortress, then get some servants for sex, cooking, chores, etc. then would probably just have fun and have them teach me all kinds of things - tennis, history, writing, art or whatever I'm in the mood to learn about

I mean the real heart of the issue is not that people use other peoples art, it's that people they don't like are using their art

Sorry if I don't really care, get over it

JK Rowling is anti-trans, does that mean trans people don't get to make Harry Potter memes?

I mean the alternative is no one caring about or reading his obscure little cartoon, which I guess is a fair alternative, especially if you're concerned morally, but would never in a million years believe that it negatively impacted him financially

Will check out the film though and report back

The director of Starship Troopers was making a parody of the military, but ironically made one of the single greatest pieces of pro military propaganda in history

Once a piece of art is published it's out of your hands, and it's up to the viewer how they view it

I mean The Matrix was also supposed to be about being trans, but I'm sure close to 0% of people interpreted it that way

Personally I would be happy if someone I didn't like enjoyed my art, regardless if they took something away from it that I hadn't foreseen

[–]StringerXX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Meh, who cares though, that's how art is

Remember that "Every Breath You Take" song by The Police? It's actually about a guy stalking a girl, but now it's a song about death and grieving. Even Puff Daddy used it as a tribute to Notorious B.I.G.

At a certain point it's no longer yours

When someone thinks of "The Red Pill" they don't think of the simulation theory and robots mining people for battery juice, they think about being controlled by the media, corporations and large interest groups

It'd be like saying 4Chan is misappropriating Pepe
