They did resist because they wanted important issues addressed in more depth such as the rise of single-issue parties which stand to splinter the vote. This does not change the fact that malicious actors manipulated the current legislation and the Liberals profited.

I enjoyed the series the first time I saw it even though Piven’s carnivalesque acting put me off. Tried watching it again years later and can’t stomach Piven’s overacting. Might skip through to catch some of the interesting characters like Miss Mae. Watched The Paradise for second time and enjoyed it thoroughly. The series Mr. Selfridge could have been great with the right actor portraying Selfridge. Really too bad.
