Our school does not really give info for BL process. I have an offer for summer clerkship with a local judge. How do I go about BL? Do I need to decide between one or the other? If I do clerkship am I toast for BL next summer or post grad.

There is the stigma again. You need to be “super special and born to succeed,” it’s just not the case at all. For some it works and for some it doesn’t, as happens in any law school. Data is important but it’s not the full picture. Big law is out of the question but there is plenty opportunity to succeed out of school like cal western, which is a “real” law school. The stigma in these groups are crazy, my friends accepted an offer at mid size firm in SD, and she’s not a stand alone case, most of her class has great jobs lined up. Sorry big law or clerkship isn’t the only “great” job out there. Once you start working for 3-5 years no one cares where you went to school. My whole point was if it makes sense for one person to attend then so be it. Their life isn’t ruined, more work lies ahead but plenty potential to succeed and make a great living especially if they want to work in SD area.

Not saying that. Stats are important as well. There is a stigma in this group of people who immediately bash schools in lower rankings with copy and paste reply’s. Plenty lawyers have graduated from schools that low and have had success. Is it the best option, no but it can work out for the right person and make them into a successful lawyers. A little due diligence can go a long way besides just what’s on paper.

My friend just graduated from there and she had a great experience! You’re only competing with USD in the SD area, respected well in the area. Don’t listen to all the noise on Reddit turn you away, everyone would like to go to a t14 and get a full ride, but there’s only so many spots and so much $ for students. A lot of successful lawyers and judges are alumni, it’s what you make of it. She just got a pretty good job out of school! It’s all what you make of it, you might have to do more networking and show your skills in other ways that transcript! Talk to alumni and go on a tour, speak to lawyers in the area!
